Yr4 - Pyramids example work through

We will be using TinkerCAD to make "scale models".

Scale model

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A scale model is a copy of an object that is bigger or smaller than the real size of the object. Very often the scale model is smaller than the real object and used as a guide to making the object in full size. Scale models are made or collected for many reasons. You can also use it with math.

Today, we will all work through an example task - using the Pyramids at Giza.

Step 1

  • Can you find out the size?   You will need to know the  Height and ideally width too.

Step 2 - We will use the TinkerCAD squares to help us measure, (but we may need to reduce the size).   For the Pyramid height information, I found, I can half the height to make it fit.

Quick maths check.  To half the size I can divide by 2.

Height 146 / 2 = 73

Base length 230 / 2 = 115

(So each small square is equal to 2m)

Step 2 - We can then go to TinkerCAD and try to create a simple scale Model.

It should be exactly 73 squares tall.

To add in an entrance, Insert 2 cuboid shapes, (One solid, One smaller one  Hollow) then Select all three shapes and Group them.

You can share your design through SeeSaw.  Please go to your Technology class and find this activity.
