Lesson 3 - Chocolate Moulds

How do people make chocolate bars all be the same shape?

If we wanted to make many chocolate bars that looked the same we would need to use some kind of mould.  These are often made of hard plastic or softer flexible silicone.

Can you use your knowledge of CAD design to create a mould for your own chocolate bar!

Example 1

Step 1)  First we need to make our single chocolate piece.

Step 2 ) Then we cut out the inside with a hollow shape - make sure it is smaller than the box and also raised from the workplane.

Smaller Dimensions

Raised from the workplane

Place the hollow piece inside the red box and group them together.

Step 3) Use the Scribble or Letttering tool to create your brand name!

Step 4) Resize your lettering and place it into the box.   It should stick up only a little from the base!

Can you see the problem with this design?

What will the chocolate block look like?

Hint!

We can now group and duplicate this piece to create a larger chocolate bar mould.

Example 2

This time we will make the whole chocolate bar and use it to hollow out a box.

Step 1)

Copy and Paste

Step 2)  If you want a brand name, add it before you start duplicating.

Step 3)  Group it all together and make it hollow.   Place a box over the top, group it together again and rotate to see the mould in full.

Can I design  using a CAD program?

Success Criteria

I can add objects to the workplane

I can use solid and hollow shapes

I can align and group shapes

I can duplicate shapes
