In Year 6, we work closely with the charity A21 whose mission is to end slavery through focused work in educating about human trafficking that can involve children, women and men. A21 work on the model of ‘Reach, Rescue, Restore’ to ensure that the cycle of human trafficking can be broken through education movements, contact with authorities and with a foundation of support in place to help survivors.
Fundraising from Year 6 takes place in different ways, including contributions made during events such as Tiger Spirit Day, sponsorship through sporting challenges, the Christmas shoebox scheme along with additional items donated from the Patana community at the end of each year.
The money raised through Bangkok Patana has a wide reaching impact on the communities that A21 assist in both Thailand and Cambodia, including the following:
From the A21 Cambodia team:
Thanks to the support from Bangkok Patana, A21 collaborated with local authorities in charge of a community vaccine campaign to support the Cambodian Government's fight against Covid-19 while preventing human trafficking during the pandemic. A21 donated 100 cases of drinking water while distributing human trafficking prevention resources and information on how to report suspected abuse to thousands of people across the community. A21 also provided human trafficking awareness resources and water to a migration centre on the Thailand/Cambodia border, which is working every day to try to identify victims of human trafficking as they cross illegal borders. The support contributed to basic needs supplies, hand sanitiser for Covid-relief, plus printing and distributing human trafficking prevention resources to the community.
From the A21 Thailand team:
A21 have been able to prepare and provide COVID relief packages, including face masks, hand sanitisers, toiletries, dried food and A21's CYSM fliers and prevention comic books to Wattana District Office, who have been working to support migrant workers in several construction camps in the district where there have been COVID-19 outbreaks and the communities have been sealed off. A21 have also provided face masks and hand sanitiser, with A21's prevention comic books, to both Chonburi and Banglamung hospital whom we work with to support the victims of trafficking in the area where our Child Advocacy Centre is located.
The Christmas Box Scheme sees Year 6 students filling a shoe box with items that would be enjoyed by a child of a selected age. These are then donated to children in rural areas where they are always really excited to see what has arrived! The tuktuk in the image was also previously purchased thanks to Patana donations, so the contributions we make as a community can be seen to be really wide ranging.
Thank you to everyone who has helped to support A21 in the past and who will contribute in the current academic year.
