A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

It’s been another superb week in the Primary school with the rhythm of school life firmly back. I have very much enjoyed catching up with the students each lunch time in the canteen and hearing about the excitement of being in a new class. Time passes by so quickly, that I can’t believe that those children who were in Year 4 when I joined Patana are now in their last year of Primary.

This year, I am pleased to be teaching Ms. Anna Caswell’s class in Year 5. Each member of the Primary leadership team has a weekly teaching responsibility and I am delighted to be supporting Year 5 for 2 hours a week, when Ms. Anna has her leadership cover. This will be my 20th year as a teacher, another unbelievable passing of time, and I know I still have a lot to learn!

Next Tuesday, we begin our parent partnership series and I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Please RSVP here if you would like to attend.

Sarah McCormack

Well-being

Year 3 have been exploring the wonderful outdoor playground and we have enjoyed showing the children around all their new learning spaces. The children are really starting to learn the new routines and finding their way around the school.

A few reminders

  • Hats - your child needs a hat to access all the play areas and for PE lessons.  It is best to be left in school all week.
  • Water bottles
  • Naming property - Please put your childs name and class code on all their uniform, shoes, hats and waterbottles to ensure a safe return if they get left behind! You can buy name stickers from the Tiger shop - please see below.
  • For PE lessons the children need a bag for their school uniform. These can be purchased at the school shop. The bag needs to be big enough to fit in the uniform and their school shoes.

Before and After School!

Before school starts at 7.30 the Y3 children are allowed to play on the playground . During this time they are not allowed to go on the equipment. They are aware of this but might need a few reminders! It would be great if you could help us with this! When the adult on duty blows the whistle, ther first whistle they stand still and on the second whistle the children can then make their way to their classroom.

Playground use before and after school

Students are not permitted to use any of the climbing or play equipment before 7:30 a.m.

There is no staff supervision in any play area after 2:30.

The accompanying adult is therefore responsible for the safe supervision of the child.

We encourage parents and family employees to take children straight home at the end of the school day.

Morning Snacks in Key Stage 2

From the week beginning the 4th September Year 3 may bring in a healthy snack from home or buy one from the Snack Bar.

Prior to this date snacks will be provided in the year group as they were in Key Stage 1. Please do not send sweets, chocolate or gum into school. We provide plain or soymilk for every student each break time. Students may bring their own water bottle to school.

Nut Free Primary School

For some children, any exposure to nuts is potentially very dangerous and can be life threatening.

We do not allow any nuts to be brought into Primary. This includes snacks on school transport, birthday treats and food items brought in for any other special days.

Some treats, such as macarons contain hidden nuts. Please check the ingredients before sending into school. If snacks or birthday treats are found to contain nuts, we will contact you and either dispose of the food safely or ask you to collect and take back home.

Snack Cards

The longed for snack cards will start to be used from Monday 4th September.

In preparation for this please can you:

  • Send in or buy a lanyard so they can hang up their snack card in class. These are available in the school and Tiger shop.
  • On Monday 4th send in some money with your child so we can top up their card and start using it! The class teachers will keep the snack cards safely in the classrooms. Over the next two weeks the children will be learning all about using the snack bar and managing a budget! The maximum amount allowed for students but I would suggest no than 100 baht to get started.

Here is a link to the snack bar menu to give you an idea of what your child may like to buy:

School Uniform Reminders

Hair

  • Hair should be neat and conservative in appearance.
  • Hair longer than shoulder-length should be tied back.

School Shoes

  • Plain black shoes for school
  • Primary students wear plain black school shoes as part of their uniform.
  • All shoes require at least a wide strap to keep the shoe firmly in place.
  • Your child will need a different pair of shoes (trainers) for their PE lessons.

School Jumper

  • Only the blue school cardigan should be worn at school

Watches

  • We encourage the children to wear a digital or analogue watch to help them learn the time.
  • Smart watches are not to be worn during the school day. They are kept in bags during the day.

Learning

Y3 Curriculum Term 1a

Our main focus for the first few weeks will be settling the children in as they transition to a new Key Stage by helping them move around the school from the classroom to specialist lessons as well as slowly introduce them to the Primary Snack Bar. We will learn all about how to use it in our Maths lessons next week. If you would like more information about our curriculum please visit our Curriculum page here

Reading Books

The children will be changing their reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This week the children have been given a reading book based on their stage from Year 2, and from reading with their new teacher.

Please can you support your child by encouraging reading at home, either reading to you or a sibling and helping to remind them to bring their books in (if finished) on book change days.

Roald Dahl Story Day

On Monday 11th September we will be celebrating the stories of Roald Dahl in Year 3. We will be doing different activities throughout the day linked to his many stories.

We would like to encourage everyone to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character. This will be introduced to the children in an assembly next week.

Music - Recorders

This week the children have been given a recorder during their Music lesson. Please remind your child to bring in their recorder into school for their Music lessons, if they brought them home to practice.

PE

This week the children have met their new PE teachers to familiarise them with changing rooms and facilities etc. For next week please follow the timetable for your class.

Please note - on PE days the children should come to school in their PE kit, with their school uniform in their bags to change into after the lesson.

The children need a bag for their uniform and school shoes on these days.

Art Competition

This  Art competition is based on natural habitats and is available for FS1-Y6. Students can create their favourite natural habitat (ocean, woodland, etc).  They can use any materials they like (diorama, drawing/painting, collage, digital art, etc), any size they like. They just need to make sure their name and class are clearly written on the front.

The deadline is Monday, 18th of September in the Primary Art room.

All the artworks will then be displayed in the Arts shared area and Sarah McCormack will choose one winner from each year group from FS1-Y6.

Global Citizenship

Everyone loves good manners and we are starting our year by ensuring our students say 'Hello' to each other and different teachers they meet. In classes the teachers will also be reinforcing:

  •  Excuse me
  • Please
  • Thank you
  • Sorry
