Living our Values

We are balanced and fulfilled

This week the children enjoyed Assembly with a special performance by the Y3 teachers. The Mystery of the Gloopy Glue! This was a lovely way to get the children excited about their upcoming learning and also to ensure they all know about Roald Dahl day on the 11th September, more information below!

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

This week I have loved seeing so many of our parents at various events!

On Tuesday, we hosted our first parent partnership workshop looking at the year ahead. On the same day, we welcomed our Year 1 – 6 parents to the Introduction to the Learning meetings. And on Thursday, we said hello to all our new parents at the PTG welcome breakfast.

I reflect on the importance of listening and communication and how everything we do is a partnership. We are delighted to work with you this coming year to create a thriving learning habitat at Patana.

Well-being

ECAs

In preparation for the ECAs starting please can you ensure your child is aware of the ECA they have each day, until this becomes routine for them.  The class teachers will go through the ECAs with the children each day but the children who already know what they are doing feel more confident about it!

In Y3 the children walk to their ECAs independently. As Patana is such a big school each class will be shown where their ECAs are taking place each day so they know where to go and how to get there. We will also as far as possible buddy up with other children doing the same ECA so they feel comfortable knowing where to go.

All Y3 staff will be on hand after school to help out any children who are unsure or have forgotten where they need to go.

If you have any queries or any changes to ECAs please contact your child's class teacher.

Preventing the spread of colds and flu

Please help us to prevent outbreaks of cold or flu as we head into the rainy season.

Children with cold or flu (influenza) symptoms should be kept at home until they are completely recovered.

Even when the main symptoms have gone, your child may still need time to return to full strength.

Please do not send your child back to school too soon, even if they are no longer in the contagious phase.

If your child is still coughing or sneezing, please keep them at home and limit their contact with other children.

A child who has a fever should be kept at home until ‘fever free’ for a minimum of 24 hours.

Influenza is a serious and contagious infection that affects the nose, throat, and respiratory system.

The virus is commonly spread through droplets in the air, allowing infection to spread quickly.

When unsure, always seek medical advice, especially if a child has a chronic condition e.g., asthma.

If Influenza is confirmed, please send a copy of the medical certificate to Nurse@patana.ac.th

Introduction to the Learning Meetings

It was lovely to see so many parents at the Introduction to the Learning meetings this week. Working in partnership, parents and teachers is so valuable for your children. If you were unable to come to the meeting you can see a copy of the slides on your child's blog page which can be found here. The blogs are updated weekly and it is a lovely way for you to be able to see what your child has been doing at school.

Before and After School!

Before school starts at 7.30 the Y3 children are allowed to play on the playground . During this time they are not allowed to go on the equipment. They are aware of this but might need a few reminders! It would be great if you could help us with this! When the adult on duty blows the whistle, ther first whistle they stand still and on the second whistle the children can then make their way to their classroom.

Playground use before and after school

Students are not permitted to use any of the climbing or play equipment before 7:30 a.m.

There is no staff supervision in any play area after 2:30.

The accompanying adult is therefore responsible for the safe supervision of the child.

We encourage parents and family employees to take children straight home at the end of the school day.

Snack bar and snacks!

This week the children have been learning about the snack card and using the snack bar and from Monday onwards they will be able to buy snacks before playtime. If your child is going to use the Snack Bar please ensure:

  • They have a lanyard for their snack card
  • They need to bring in some money on Monday to put onto their card.

Snacks will no longer be provided by school but we will provide plain or soymilk for every student each break time.

If your child is not using the snack bar please can you provide a snack for them.

Here is a link to the snack bar menu to give you an idea of what your child may like to buy:

Nut Free Primary School

For some children, any exposure to nuts is potentially very dangerous and can be life threatening.

We do not allow any nuts to be brought into Primary. This includes snacks on school transport, birthday treats and food items brought in for any other special days.

Some treats, such as macarons contain hidden nuts. Please check the ingredients before sending into school. If snacks or birthday treats are found to contain nuts, we will contact you and either dispose of the food safely or ask you to collect and take back home.

School Uniform Reminders

Hair

  • Hair should be neat and conservative in appearance.
  • Hair longer than shoulder-length should be tied back.

School Shoes

  • Plain black shoes for school
  • Primary students wear plain black school shoes as part of their uniform.
  • All shoes require at least a wide strap to keep the shoe firmly in place.
  • Your child will need a different pair of shoes (trainers) for their PE lessons.

School Jumper

  • Only the blue school cardigan should be worn at school

Watches

  • We encourage the children to wear a digital or analogue watch to help them learn the time.
  • Smart watches are not to be worn during the school day. They are kept in bags during the day.

Learning

Y3 Curriculum Term 1a

This term our learning is based around the books of Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake.

If you would like more information about our curriculum please visit our Curriculum page patana.fireflycloud.asia/year-3/year-3-curriculum

Reading Books

The children will be changing their reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Please can you support your child by encouraging reading at home, either reading to you or a sibling and helping to remind them to bring their books in (if finished) on book change days.

Roald Dahl Story Day

On Monday 11th September we will be celebrating the stories of Roald Dahl in Year 3. We will be doing different activities throughout the day linked to his many stories.

We would like to encourage everyone to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character. Hopefully, the assembly will have given them some ideas!

In preparation for Roald Day day, please can your child bring in a glass jar (with the label removed and with a lid. We will be using these to create Dream Jars! Each child will need one, but if you have more than one that would be great!

We also need to restock out junk modelling supplies. Please can you send in any boxes, card tubes, yoghurt pots etc. so the children can change them into amazing models!

Music - Recorders

Please remind your child to bring in their recorder into school for their Music lessons, if they brought them home to practice.

PE

This week the children have met their new PE teachers to familiarise them with changing rooms and facilities etc. For next week please follow the timetable for your class.

Please note - on PE days the children should come to school in their PE kit, with their school uniform in their bags to change into after the lesson.

The children need a bag for their uniform and school shoes on these days.

Art Competition

This  Art competition is based on natural habitats and is available for FS1-Y6. Students can create their favourite natural habitat (ocean, woodland, etc).  They can use any materials they like (diorama, drawing/painting, collage, digital art, etc), any size they like. They just need to make sure their name and class are clearly written on the front.

The deadline is Monday, 18th of September in the Primary Art room.

All the artworks will then be displayed in the Arts shared area and Sarah McCormack will choose one winner from each year group from FS1-Y6.

Global Citizenship

Everyone loves good manners and we are starting our year by ensuring our students say 'Hello' to each other and different teachers they meet. In classes the teachers will also be reinforcing:

  •  Excuse me
  • Please
  • Thank you
  • Sorry

Birthdays

Happy Birthday this week to....

No one! No Birthdays this week!
