A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

This week, we commenced the first of our student assemblies hosted by the Primary Leadership Team. These assemblies occur, roughly, every two weeks and parents are always warmly welcome (do check ISAMS for the schedule).

I was lucky enough to host the Year 3 and 4 assembly on Wednesday and the focus was on our values kindness, compassion and respect. We used our Learning Habitats video to further think about the ways in which school is like a rockpool and how using kind words and actions helps us to live in harmony.

A big well done to all the students starting their ECAs this week and exploring their potential in so many different ways!

Sarah McCormack

Roald Dahl Story Day

On Monday 11th September we will be celebrating the stories of Roald Dahl in Year 3. We will be doing different activities throughout the day linked to his many stories.

We would like to encourage everyone to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character. Hopefully, the assembly will have given them some ideas!

Well-being

ECAs

The children are loving their ECAs! Thank you for helping them to know each day, which ECA they have, this helps to ally any worries they may have. The Y3 team will continue to assist the students

If you have any queries or any changes to ECAs please contact your child's class teacher.

Preventing the spread of colds and flu

Please help us to prevent outbreaks of cold or flu as we head into the rainy season.

Children with cold or flu (influenza) symptoms should be kept at home until they are completely recovered.

Even when the main symptoms have gone, your child may still need time to return to full strength.

Please do not send your child back to school too soon, even if they are no longer in the contagious phase.

If your child is still coughing or sneezing, please keep them at home and limit their contact with other children.

A child who has a fever should be kept at home until ‘fever free’ for a minimum of 24 hours.

Influenza is a serious and contagious infection that affects the nose, throat, and respiratory system.

The virus is commonly spread through droplets in the air, allowing infection to spread quickly.

When unsure, always seek medical advice, especially if a child has a chronic condition e.g., asthma.

If Influenza is confirmed, please send a copy of the medical certificate to Nurse@patana.ac.th

Snack bar and snacks!

The children have enjoyed going to the snack bar to buy their snacks! Please can you make sure your child has some money to top up when needed. the Y3 teachers will help the children to add the money to their cards.

Here is a link to the snack bar menu to give you an idea of what your child may like to buy:

Nut Free Primary School

For some children, any exposure to nuts is potentially very dangerous and can be life threatening.

We do not allow any nuts to be brought into Primary. This includes snacks on school transport, birthday treats and food items brought in for any other special days.

Some treats, such as macarons contain hidden nuts. Please check the ingredients before sending into school. If snacks or birthday treats are found to contain nuts, we will contact you and either dispose of the food safely or ask you to collect and take back home.

School Uniform Reminders

Hair

  • Hair should be neat and conservative in appearance.
  • Hair longer than shoulder-length should be tied back.

School Shoes

  • Plain black shoes for school
  • Primary students wear plain black school shoes as part of their uniform.
  • All shoes require at least a wide strap to keep the shoe firmly in place.
  • Your child will need a different pair of shoes (trainers) for their PE lessons.

School Jumper

  • Only the blue school cardigan should be worn at school

Watches

  • We encourage the children to wear a digital or analogue watch to help them learn the time.
  • Smart watches are not to be worn during the school day. They are kept in bags during the day.

Learning

Y3 Curriculum Term 1a

This term our learning is based around the books of Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake.

If you would like more information about our curriculum please visit our Curriculum page patana.fireflycloud.asia/year-3/year-3-curriculum

Reading Books

The children will be changing their reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Please can you support your child by encouraging reading at home, either reading to you or a sibling and helping to remind them to bring their books in (if finished) on book change days.

International Peace Day

On Thursday 21st September we will be observing International Peace Day. This will also be a non-uniform day and the children are encouraged to wear purple clothes. The reason for the purple clothes comes from the story of Purple people who ask questions, laugh, use their voice, work hard and are encouraged to just be you!

You can listen to the story here:

A Little Background on Peace Day:

On International the Day of Peace, the UN Peace Bell is rung at UN Headquarters in New York. Various speeches, events, and awareness campaigns also take place at the headquarters and in countries around the world on the theme of world peace.

The inscription of the Peace Bell says “Long live absolute world peace”. Yet, of course, it doesn’t live at all. The point of Peace Day, then, is to promote steps toward that lofty goal. This is done largely through “peace education” efforts, especially among the world’s children, who are thought to be the “future of peace” in our world.

Interclass Events

For various Interclass events during the year, each class is assigned a colour for their class team. The first interclass event is football and is on Tuesday the 26th of September, this event will take place during your child's PE lesson. For this event the children will need to wear a T-shirt in the colour as per the chart below:

Art Competition

This  Art competition is based on natural habitats and is available for FS1-Y6. Students can create their favourite natural habitat (ocean, woodland, etc).  They can use any materials they like (diorama, drawing/painting, collage, digital art, etc), any size they like. They just need to make sure their name and class are clearly written on the front.

The deadline is Monday, 18th of September in the Primary Art room.

All the artworks will then be displayed in the Arts shared area and Sarah McCormack will choose one winner from each year group from FS1-Y6.

Global Citizenship

Everyone loves good manners and we are starting our year by ensuring our students say 'Hello' to each other and different teachers they meet. In classes the teachers will also be reinforcing:

  •  Excuse me
  • Please
  • Thank you
  • Sorry
