Coaching and Teaching Philosophy

Our Coaching and Teaching Philosophy

Our competitive programme offers your child the chance to improve their skills, stamina and speed under the watchful eye of professional coaches. He/she will have the opportunity to compete in in-house, local, regional and even international swim meets. We also offer swim camps, sleepovers and other social opportunities for students to meet new friends and learn life skills whilst challenging themselves in new and exciting environment. We aim to develop the child at an age appropriate level for long term success and a life-long love of the water. As the student progresses through the school we become more results-oriented and students will be placed in ability based groups to allow them to hone their skills, stamina and speed alongside students of a similar standard.

In the competitive programme students will be introduced to age appropriate competition situations. We like to focus on the achievement of personal best’s and the process of learning to train as is appropriate for age-group swimmers.

We value good character in our swimmers and encourage them to become team players who set challenging goals for themselves and then work hard over a sustained period to achieve them. In the Primary school we value balance and encourage swimmers to also participate in other sports and activities to explore their interests and talents. In the Secondary school we facilitate more specialisation and offer additional access to morning and Saturday training. Several of our Senior Swimmers have gone on to swim in College. We aim to prevent drop-out making training FUN and fostering friendships between swimmers.

We are a school based program therefore there are some things we can and cannot offer:

We CAN offer:

  1. High quality group training sessions.
  2. A range of squads to suit individual needs (we are however still a school and we are not an elite swimming academy so we focus on Swimming for All).
  3. High quality personal development activities such as swim camps, tours, team-building sleepovers and charity events.
  4. The opportunity to represent the school in BISAC, SEASAC and FOBISIA activity conferences.
  5. The opportunity to compete for the school at local invitationals throughout Bangkok.
  6. Exposure to the local Thai Swimming scene via attendance at a small number of meets and the Thai Nationals each year.

We CANNOT offer:

  1. An extensive travel meet schedule—our trips need Ministry of Education Approval and a rigorous budgeting and planning process, therefore we aim to include SEASAC, FOBISIA and one other major travel meet each academic year in our calendar.
  2. 1:1 training. The school only offers group lessons due to time and space constraints. Some of our staff do offer private lessons outside of school hours and can be approached to offer additional coaching/teaching, or you may wish to pursue this outside of our organisation. For some children there is a place for 1:1 coaching, especially if there is a specific area of concern which is holding them back overall. It may be simply that your child’s ECA schedule is packed with activities and you need to source extra hours in the pool elsewhere.
  3. On occasion the needs of the school as a whole must come before TigerSharks training. These occasions include: Residential Visits and Primary 3 Way Conferences. Where possible make-up opportunities will be made available.
