Day 5 of skiing complete! We really experienced the Japanese powder that everyone talks about today. Our day started with lots of sunshine before the snow arrived again. We are expecting heavy snowfall tonight so tomorrow is going to be even better!
We are proud of any students who found the progression of slopes a bit of a challenge yesterday. They have got up today, had a bit of a pep talk and faced their fears. They have all come off the mountain absolutely beaming and their love of skiing continues to build.
Excitement on the slopes today consisted of lots of tree and park skiing. The advanced group had lots of outstanding wipeouts, including their instructor! Round of applause to Will who was the the only member of the group who stayed on his feet today, and that includes the instructor! Shout out from the instructors goes to Daniel and Thuwaybah. Both have mastered some niche skills. Daniel is now crowned the half pipe King and Thuwaybah the ramp champion.
Some of our students experienced the pizza tray today. No... this was not their lunchtime meal, but a solo chair lift! Apart from sleeping, this is probably the only quiet time they've had all trip. With no phones this would have been a moment for them to take in the scenery and watch some of the skiers and snowboarders below.
Much to our amusement, some of our senior girls gave us a sales pitch about having more time on their phones. It was a brilliant attempt and some of them absolutely need to go into a career of persuasive business. Jokes aside, it has been so lovely to see the students interacting with each other, rather than being stuck on their phones all week. Many haven't actually chosen to take them to use even when given the opportunity. Worry not, we have lots of photos that will be shared when we are back at school.
Meanwhile in the boys house, instead of giving sales pitches, they were deciding what songs to sing for karaoke and practicing their dance skills. Particular mentions to Tyler and Paro for this. Their karaoke duet was also a sight to be seen.
This evening students have experienced a local Japanese dish for dinner, where they all eat round a hot pot. They have also been to the town to buy souvenirs... parents, get excited to see what delights they have bought you! Their evening ended with the karaoke and disco night where they are all absolutely buzzing with excitement.
Last day of skiing tomorrow. Students have one last day to refine their techniques on the piste, ready to show you all on their next ski holiday. They are all having the time of their lives.
One day to go!
