We've made it! Not only to Niseko, but also through a jam packed orientation day. We are super proud of all the students and they haven't even been on the slopes yet.
Students behaviour was exemplary in the airport. They've been interacting with others across the year groups and we can already see some wonderful bonds in the making. Alison has taken the younger girls under her wing and is already a role model for them. Students did managed to get some shut eye on the flight, and we are impressed with their energy considering there are lots of tired faces around.
A huge highlight coming out of the airport was Ethan picking up snow for the first time. The joy on his face was an absolute picture and a memory to cherish.
Our coach transfer allowed students to see the beautiful surroundings. We stopped at Mushroom Village where many of them tried the Japanese cuisine on offer. As we arrived in resort, we were welcomed by an army of Les Elfes employees who's organisation has made a busy first day feel seamless.
Students were taken to their chalets, wow! They have been roomed and have settled in well to the accommodation. We have done our ski fit where many were perplexed by their first trying of a ski boot! We are looking forward to seeing how they get around in these tomorrow.
We couldn't have got through our first day without a snowball fight! Students laughed, smiled and threw snowballs to their hearts content. Some braver souls dared to throw at staff... we will remember this on the slopes tomorrow! We then ate together in the communal area. Japanese curry, and all the dietary versions of this too. They were quized on the skiers code and got to know some of the Les Elfes staff a little more.
Our evening has ended with a Cultural Drumming experience. The fitness, rhythm and timing needed was remarkable. Many of our students tried the drums and were genuinely impressed with the performers talent!
Day one done. Lots of tired but very happy students (and staff!). Lets see how they fair on the mountain tomorrow...
