Year 3 CAT2023

Donations for Thomas House

Wow! What an amazing achievement for Year 3. It was great to see all of the donations for Thomas House under our year group tree. I'm sure they will be very thankful for the donations we received. Well done Year 3.

Friendship Friday 2023

We had great fun on Friday celebrating Friendship Friday, wearing bright colours and participating in various activities throughout the day. One incredible part of this was the Market. It was lovely seeing so many Christmas cards being bought for the Thomas house charity! The students did a fantastic job selling them to parents and teachers at the market and at the end of the day. Year 3 raised an incredible 7574 baht! I think the decorations made by our lovely Year 3's definitely helped!

It was a fantastic opportunity to think about those connections we have not only in school, but further afield and allows us to continue to develop these friendships further. By supporting Thomas House, we are forming fantastic friendships and show we care about the community. In total, Year 3 raised an amazing 13,409 baht with their donations towards the day, which will undoubtedly help our charity Thomas House.

About Thomas House

WHAT IS THOMAS HOUSE?

Thomas House is a small, specialised school for children with special educational needs located in Tha Ton, north of Chiang Mai. It provides a vital service to a rural area with very few options for children with special needs. Before Thomas House, children were either sent to schools that were ill-equipped and untrained to cater to their needs, or they did not attend school at all.

With construction completed in November 2017, this November marks the five year anniversary of Thomas House. The school can accommodate up to 24 students and offers an individualised learning program to suit the needs of each child. Thomas House also offers placements for specialist volunteers and work experience opportunities for trainees in the SEN field.

The Year 3 Times tables-athon!

What is it?

This term, Year 3 will be taking part in our annual Times Tables-athon, a sponsored times tables speed-test. The purpose of this event is both to raise money for our charity, Thomas House, and to encourage the children to learn their times tables by heart. Quick recall of times tables, as opposed to using a method or strategy to work out the answer, helps free up space in children's working memory so that they can focus on applying their knowledge to other areas of the curriculum, for example, when learning about fractions, area and perimeter as well as other concepts that they will learn higher up in the school.
