International Day of Peace - 21st September

On Wednesday 21st September we will be observing International Peace Day. This will also be a non-uniform day and the children are encouraged to wear purple clothes, following on from Mrs McCormack's assembly including the story of Purple People. The story tells of Purple people who ask questions, laugh, use their voice, work hard and just be you!

You can listen to the story here:

A little background on Peace day:

On International Day of Peace, the UN Peace Bell is rung at UN Headquarters in New York. Various speeches, events, and awareness campaigns also take place at the headquarters and in countries around the world on the theme of world peace.

The inscription of the Peace Bell says “Long live absolute world peace”. Yet, of course, it doesn’t live at all. The point of Peace Day, then, is to promote steps toward that lofty goal. This is done largely through “peace education” efforts, especially among the world’s children, who are thought to be the “future of peace” in our world.

Interclass Football - 29th September

For various Interclass events during the year, each class is assigned a colour for their class team. The first interclass event football and is on the 29th of September. For this event the children will need to wear a T-shirt in the colour as per the chart below:

Well-being

Many parents have mentioned their children do not share much about their day at school. Why not look at your class blog together, this may help you find out a little more about what they are doing at school. You can find the blogs here. The blogs are updated weekly.

Nut Free Primary School

Please ensure any snack or Birthday cakes/doughnuts that come into school are nut free. This is to ensure we are keeping all our students safe as ewe have some students in the Y3/4 Building who have severe nut allergies.  Thank you for your help with this.

Learning

Y3 Curriculum Term 1a

This term our learning is based around the books of Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake.

If you would like more information about our curriculum please visit our Curriculum page here

Reading Books

The children will be changing their reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This week the children have been given a reading book based on their stage from Year 2, and from reading with their new teacher.

Please can you support your child by encouraging reading at home, either reading to you or a sibling and helping to remind them to bring their books in (if finished) on book change days.

PE

POLITE PE NOTICE:

Now that Year 3 students are changing in different locations for their PE lessons, please check that PE kit and uniforms are clearly labelled with your child’s name and class. They also need to be in a separate PE bag

This is extremely helpful in returning left, lost or accidentally swapped items back to their rightful owners!

Global Citizenship

Everyone loves good manners and we are starting our year by ensuring our students say 'Hello' to each other and different teachers they meet. In classes the teachers will also be reinforcing:

  •  Excuse me
  • Please
  • Thank you
  • Sorry
