Changing lives one box at a time

Changing Lives, One Box at a Time

Every year, our Year 4 students embrace the spirit of giving through their annual Christmas Shoebox Collection—an uplifting tradition that supports children at the Mercy Centre in Khlong Toei. Led by our eighteen dedicated Student Councillors, this project continues to highlight the power of compassion, teamwork, and community action.

The initiative began in early November when the Student Councillors met to plan and deliver an informative assembly to the year group. They introduced the shoebox appeal, shared the story of the Mercy Centre, and explained how a small box of carefully chosen essentials can make a meaningful difference to a child’s daily life. They also proudly reflected on the positive impact of last year’s fundraising, which helped improve the Mercy Centre’s kindergarten playgrounds.

From mid-November, the shared area filled with excitement as students brought in their shoeboxes. Each box contained toiletries, stationery, a small toy, and a personal note—simple but thoughtful gifts chosen with care. As the Christmas tree went up, the growing collection beneath it became a cheerful reminder of the kindness within our community.

This year’s Mercy Centre Christmas Party was especially memorable. Children from the Mercy Centre visited Patana to enjoy festive activities alongside our students and received their shoeboxes in person. The joy on their faces brought the purpose of the project to life, giving our Year 4 children a meaningful opportunity to witness the impact of their generosity and deepen their understanding of empathy.

We extend our sincere thanks to all families who contributed, and to the Student Councillors whose leadership made this project such a success.

Together, we truly are changing lives, one box at a time.
