Motivated and Engaged - Curious
Note from the Principal
13 Sept 2024
A note from the Principal
This week, we have had a fantastic time exploring numbers! Long-time Patana collaborators
Andrew Jeffrey and Liz Gibbs have helped make our Maths Week truly inspiring.
Students have enjoyed problem-solving activities, hands-on explorations,
timetable competitions, and even a Maths magic show!
We are also delighted to invite you to a Parent Workshop on Tuesday at 8am,
where you can learn more about how to support your child's maths development.
Do not forget next week is a short week for us, with school closed on Friday.

Wellbeing
Please continue to refer to the matrix of positive behaviours and attitudes, organised under the three strands of Safe, Curious and Kind. Clearly shared expectations help us to promote and model the behaviours that we want our students to absorb as they progress through school. Please join with us in sharing and modelling these positive behaviours and attitudes.
World Peace Day
Come to school dressed in blue on Wednesday 18th September. We will celebrate peace through attending an assembly in the theatre.

ICT in Year 6
When your child's device is registered in school, our ICT specialists ensure your child has the key elements installed / updated that are needed for learning in Year 6.
Other websites and / or apps that we use over the school year are:
- Minecraft Education
- Myimaths
- Readtheory
- Timestable Rockstars
- Diagnostic Questions
- Prodigy
There should not be a need for your child to install any other apps for now, as they should be able to visit the websites needed through their browsers. We will let you know of any upcoming units of learning that would benefit from new apps being installed ahead of time so you should not get any requests from your child during the school day.
If your child has an iPad, we recommend you remove apps such as TikTok, Line, the YouTube App, Roblox, Discord etc. as these are not necessary for a school device.

PE
Students should come to school in their PE kit on PE days. If they have swimming for the first lesson, they can wear their swim kit under their uniform. If they have swimming later in the day, we ask that they DO NOT wear their swim kit to school.
Please ensure that your child brings their uniform with them to get changed into after their PE lessons.

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.
