Note from the Principal

6 September 2024

A note from the Principal

This week, we have truly found our rhythm, and students are settling well into the routines of school life—bravo to everyone!

It has been wonderful to welcome so many parents on campus, whether at the 'Introduction to Thai' parent workshop, the Year 1 to Year 6 'Meet the Teacher' sessions, the new parent coffee morning, or during our Primary assemblies.

We are delighted to work in partnership with our parents to support our students' learning and well-being. Looking forward to a fabulous year ahead!

Playground use before and after school

Students are not permitted to use any of the climbing or play equipment before 7:30 a.m.

There is no staff supervision in any play area after 2:30.

The accompanying adult is therefore responsible for the safe supervision of the child.

We encourage parents and family employees to take children straight home at the end of the school day.

Meet the Teachers

It was wonderful to welcome so many parents to Year 6 for the "Meet the Teachers" sessions on Tuesday. If you were unable to come, please check your child's class blog for the presentations shared by the teachers.

Learning

Progress Tests (Mathematics and English)

Our Progress Tests for Mathematics were held today - thank you for helping ensure your child was fully prepared for this with the appropriate technology.

Our Progress Tests in English will be on Friday 13th of September, as per the email to parents sent from the Primary Office.

There will be catch up sessions for any students that are absent on these dates.

It is essential your child brings in their device and compatible headphones again next Friday.

Maths Week

Next week, we will be welcoming UK Maths gurus Andrew Jeffrey and Liz Gibbs to Patana. Maths will be celebrated throughout the week through some number tricks, puzzles and investigations. To celebrate the 50 Year Anniversary of the toy, Rubik’s Cube, your child is invited to bring in their Rubik’s Cube (or similar toy, perhaps in a different shape) anytime next week. Students may then challenge each other to solve it quickly at break or lunchtime.

ICT in Year 6

When your child's device is registered in school, our ICT specialists ensure your child has the key elements installed / updated that are needed for learning in Year 6.

Other websites and / or apps that we use  over the school year are:

  • Minecraft Education
  • Myimaths
  • Readtheory
  • Timestable Rockstars
  • Diagnostic Questions
  • Prodigy

There should not be a need for your child to install any other apps for now, as they should be able to visit the websites needed through their browsers. We will let you know of any upcoming units of learning that would benefit from new apps being installed ahead of time so you should not get any requests from your child during the school day.

If your child has an iPad, we recommend you remove apps such as TikTok, Line, the YouTube App, Roblox, Discord etc. as these are not necessary for a school device.

Reading Recommendations Year 6

Does your child need inspiration for choosing their next great read? Have a look at this Padlet with some amazing recommendations. All these books are in our Primary School Library, and even some in the Secondary School Library (you will need the help of your parents to check these out).

PE

Students should come to school in their PE kit on PE days. If they have swimming for the first lesson, they can wear their swim kit under their uniform. If they have swimming later in the day, we ask that they DO NOT wear their swim kit to school.

Please ensure that your child brings their uniform with them to get changed into after their PE lessons.

Blogs

Click on the link to visit the Year 6 blogs.

This is where you will find an overview of your child's learning along with their home learning tasks and any important messages from your child's class teacher.

Please check your child's class blog weekly to stay informed about their learning.

Please encourage your child to complete their home learning.

Events Around the World

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.
