A note from the Principal

A note from the Principal

As we embark on Term 2B, I hope each of you had a rejuvenating first week back with us.

It is with sadness that I share news of Khun Puy's passing. Khun Puy served as our housekeeper in Year 4 and was a valued member of the Patana staff for 8 years. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family during this difficult time.

If you would like to offer condolences, please share them with K. Pom in the Primary Office, and we will ensure they reach Khun Puy's family.

Supporting your Child with Reading at Home

Thank you to all the parents who attended the recent parent workshop on Tuesday 6th February. Please follow this link to access the presentation slides:

Supporting Your Child with Reading at Home

Residential

Many of our students are getting very excited about the upcoming residential visits but there are some who are feeling anxiety too. Please do let your child know that it is very normal to be anxious about being away from home for two nights. Talk together about strategies that they can use for any particular worries. E.g. if they are worried about being afraid of the dark, look into packing a small night light that they can bring to have by their bed.

If they still have accidents with regards to wetting the bed, we are happy to work with you and your child to alleviate any anxiety they may have about this.

If you child seems overly worried, please do let their class teacher know. We would like to work together to ensure that your child feels as supported as possible going into this experience.

World Book Day - Thursday 7th March

There are some exciting book themed activities planned for this special day. Please note that it will not be a dress up day.

We invite families to donate a brand-new children’s book (Thai Language Please) which will passed to one of our charities:

  • FS - Home of Praise (age 2-5)
  • Y2 - Children of the Forest (age 5-11)
  • Y3 - Thomas House (age 5-11)
  • Y4 - Mercy Centre (age 5-11)

If you wish to donate a book, your child should hand it to their class teacher during the month of March.

Times Tables-athon Friday 8th March

When? NEXT WEEK!

Friday, 8th March.

Why?

The Times Tables-athon is a sponsored times tables speed-test. The purpose of this event is to raise money for our charity, Thomas House, and to encourage the children to learn their times tables by heart. Quick recall of times tables helps free up space in children's working memory so that they can focus on applying their knowledge to other areas of the curriculum. For example, students use their times-tables knowledge when learning fractions, and area and perimeter.

Which Times Tables?

The children will choose three times tables to learn, choosing one set from the following group:

- 2, 5 and 10 times tables

- 3, 4 and 8 times tables

- 6, 7 and 9 times tables

- a mix of all times tables including division facts

Sponsorship

Each child has been given a sponsorship form to take home. They are encouraged to collect as much money as they can and to bring it in after the Times Tables-athon.

Inventors Day

Put Thursday 4th April into your diary!

On this day, we are going to have 'Inventor's Day'. Year 3 students are invited to dress up as:

  • an inventor or
  • an invention

If they choose to dress up as an inventor, they could also make and bring in an example of their invention (e.g. a homemade calculator or homemade phone).

They will need to find out all about their invention:

  • who invented it?
  • why did they invent it?
  • where was it invented?

Y3 Curriculum Term 2B

This Term the childen will be learning about Inventions: Throughout history, people have imagined and then created new things to make their lives better, easier, and more enjoyable. From the wheel to penicillin to the computer, inventions continue to change the way we live. This theme introduces students to the amazing world of inventions — they'll learn about famous inventors, explore everyday inventions, discuss the "Top 10" inventions of all time, and even imagine a new invention for the 21st century.
If you would like to find out more about our learning please take a look at the curriculum pages here patana.fireflycloud.asia/year-3/year-3-curriculum/term-2-discovering-our-world
