Living our school values:

We are balanced and fulfilled

27 Jan 2023

A note from the Principal

As the third week of the term comes to a close, there is much activity relating to our eagerly awaited and sorely missed residentials for Year 4 - 6. I am looking forward to joining Y4 in Hua Hin, and to be spending quality time and experiences with the students and staff. This will be my first Patana residential and my first since 2019. The last overnight trip I went on was to Carlingford in County Lough, Ireland with Year 5 and 6 and it was rather cold!

For this week’s note, I would like to share a quick reminder. Over the last while, there has been increase in the popularity of smart watches with our students. Whilst we encourage children to wear a watch to school, to help them keep track on time and develop independence, many smart watches allow for phone and message contact, internet access, online games, and other features that they do not need in school.

If your child does have a smart watch, please take this opportunity to talk with your child about which functions are appropriate during the school day and set your child’s smart watch to block games, messaging and making calls. No technology is permitted on our residentials.

Thank you for your support

Well-being- ECAs

There will then be a two week break before Block C begins.  Please ensure that you have noted this.

Key ECA dates:

  • Monday 23rd January 2023 ECA Confirmations available online. Phase II opens 17:00
  • Thursday 26th January 2023 Phase II closes 23:59
  • Monday 13th February 2023 ECA programme commences
  • Friday 31st March 2023 ECA programme finishes.

Air Quality

If the air quality is 'Caution for all' in the mornings, please say goodbye to your child at the Y1 doors and let them come inside to the middle area by themselves.  It gets very crowded and noisy when parents and carers come inside as well.  We have staff on duty and soft start activities set up for the students.  We appreciate your support with this.

Learning

Our theme for this half term is 'Once Upon a Time'.  You can find out more about this on the Y1 Curriculum Page.

Global Citizenship

Sponsored Spellathon in Year 1

On Friday 10th February, Year 1 will have a Sponsored Spellathon. This will help raise money for the children at Grapongdeang School in Khlong Toey.

Today, we have sent home a list of spellings for your child to learn, which is appropriate to their phonic level. We have also attached a sponsorship form so that friends, family and neighbours can have the opportunity to support your child in this event.

The children should practice spelling their words at home ready for the big Spellathon, when we will see how many they know.

If your child would like to take on the additional “Super Spell” challenge, then please also learn the additional “Super Spellers” words.

Many thanks for your support with this year group event.

Snacks - Nut Free School

We provided tasty and nutritious snacks each day for the students in class. As some of our children have allergies, please ensure any food sent to school does not contain any sort of nut.

Birthday celebrations

We cannot give out party bags or gifts - please keep these for any sort of celebration that you do out of school.

If you would like to send in some birthday treats for your child to share with their class, please arrange a day with your child's class teacher. We will only be able to manage individual items like brownies, doughnuts or cupcakes. Please remember we are a nut-free Primary School.

These students are celebrating their birthdays this week:

1P Elsie 31-January
1J Eva 01-February
1G Shambhavi [Pihu] 01-February

Have a wonderful day!
