Learning Advice for Parents
Learning Focus
Counting
We love counting songs and we think you know so many already. Today we are sharing a counting song called 5 Currant Buns:
Why don’t you shape some play dough to make some buns. Your buns might have a cherry on top like the song or they may have sprinkles or chocolate on top?
You can role play being the owner of the bakers shop selling your buns, giving one away each time. Don’t forget to count them each time to find out how many you have? You can find some counters to represent coins, or if they are clean you might use real coins?
Promoting Independence
Risks
To ensure that our children know how to remain safe we must talk and explain about risks.
Remember, large items eliminate risks altogether, but there is no substitute for ‘real’ objects to play with. Where possible we try to promote experiences that hold a real life context especially when learning about money! However, small objects can be a choking hazard, so we do need to take care. Firstly, if you know your child is prone to putting things in their mouth then you need to be especially observant and start with larger objects. You can then explain why small things do not go in our mouths. As grown ups we must supervise any play with small parts and model keeping safe.
Active Learning
The 'One More Song'
Singing and dancing is a great way to lift our emotions. Vevo the monkey is feeling sad but singing and dancing makes him feel much better.

We Love to See Your Learning!
What could you share on Seesaw today?
Today, you might like to share videos or pictures of your child showing 1:1 correspondence, or getting creative with their playdough. We love seeing videos of children role play, so perhaps they created their shop?
You are not limited to the ideas on the blog. Perhaps your child has displayed a skill for the first time, such as putting on their socks, or riding a bike? We love sharing these kind of experiences and achievements too!
It's really helpful for us teachers if you can write one or two sentences explaining the context, maybe what your child was doing or saying. This can be done by using the 'Text' feature.
