Learning Advice for Parents

Why Do We Sing In The Nursery?

Singing songs with young children helps to boost vocabulary and language skills. When we sing our language is slowed down and our songs have lots of rhyme and repetition too. When we have actions too, we are practicing coordinating our minds and our bodies.

Learning Focus

Listening To Music

We all like different types of music, click on the picture to listen to the different kinds of music. Which one do you like?

Can you make some music of your own? You could use the instruments you have already.

Or you could make some new ones. Here are some ideas;

We would love to hear some videos of you sharing your own music on Seesaw.

Promoting Independence

How Are We Feeling?

When we return to school it will be very exciting, but it will be a whole new experience for our new Nursery children. As the children settle it is really important that they are able to explain how they are feeling or if anything is worrying them, this is something we will always be there to support them with. Some of our children are confident speakers in Thai or English, others may have limited language skills or be shy with new grown ups. So our signs for feelings are very useful. You may like to practice with your child, you can say the word in English or Thai as you do the action.

Pom Pom Scoop

Guidance

You will need:

  • Pom poms (resource bag)
  • Large spoon (slotted if you have one)
  • Water
  • Tray
  • Cups with numbers 0 to 9 written on them

First encourage your child to play and explore the tray with the pom poms in.

  • How does it feel?
  • Do you like it?

Write 0-9 on the cups with a sharpie pen.

Show your child how you can use the spoon to scoop up some pom poms. They will want to have a go. Let them have a go and see how many they pick up.

Next encourage them to count the number of pom poms for each cup. For example, put 1 pom pom in the cup with 1 on it.

Only go as far as they feel comfortable.
