Learning Advice for Parents

Physical Development and Early Maths

Any marks that your child makes are meaningful. We want the children to be able to explain their symbols to you. It doesn’t matter if the numbers are not recognisable to us as we are in the early stages of representing numbers. It could be dots, circles, lines, pictures or any marks that your child has used to represent numbers.

Learning Focus

Role play links to so many areas of learning.

Today's story is about using our imagination to bring awe and wonder into our lives. Sophie enjoys a tea party with a very unusual and hungry visitor. We can encourage children to use their imagination by asking them which animal they would like to share food and drink with?

Today you could make your own shop by getting some food and other items out of the cupboard. Together, you and your child can price each item using paper tags (numbers to 5). You can take it in turns to buy items from the shop, model writing a receipt for the items, make your own paper coins and notes, or pay with real money.

Promoting Independence

Sitting Cross Legged

When we are at nursery we encourage the children to sit cross legged when we have carpet time. It is a great way to stretch muscles, it is good for their knees and joints and it improves posture. You could practice with your child sitting with their legs crossed ready for when we start back at school. It may be a little tricky for them at first if they are not used to it, but they will soon get the hang of it.

As part of their development sometimes children sit in a ‘W shape’ here is some information about W sitting.

Squishy Bag with Ms Grace

Guidance

In this learning session your child will make and then play with a squishy bag. It is great for their fine motor skills and good fun too.

You will need:

  • Flour
  • Water
  • Food colouring
  • Ziplock bag
  • A bowl and spoon

First the video will show you how to make the squishy bag and then I will talk through some ways of using the bag.

Here are some questions for you to ask your child to guide their learning:

  • I wonder how we will make the squishy bag?
  • I wonder what we need to do with these things we have collected?
  • I wonder which colour shall we choose for your bag?
  • I wonder if you can use your muscles to mix the things together to make it squish together?

Now that the bag is ready:

  • I wonder what you can do with your bag?
  • I wonder if you can make a pattern?
  • How can you use your fingers to make shapes?
  • Can you think of any toys you could use with your squishy bag?
  • Can you make footprints using an animal toy or a dinosaur?
  • Can your small toys walk on your bag? What can you see?

Have fun and please share your learning with us.

Story Time

The Tiger Who Came to Tea

Did you enjoy our stories last week?  Check out our digital bookshelf to listen to your favourite ones again.  Just like last week, page 1 is the stories read in English and on page 2, they are read in Thai.

We Love to See Your Learning!

We really love to see videos and photos of what you have been doing at home. The best way to share this with us is via the Seesaw App. You should have received communication about how to download and login to the app. If you have not received this, please email the ISIT helpdesk- helpdesk@patana.ac.th

Resource Packs

If you have picked up your child's resource pack, they may already be very excited to explore what's inside.  Whilst there may be times that we encourage the use of certain resources, we would love for your child to have access to these, whenever they wish.  Below are some ideas about how you can enhance this learning.

Home-School Communication

We hope that you enjoy engaging with our Nursery Blog.

If you have any concerns or queries about your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher via email. They can then arrange a mutually convenient time to meet via MS Teams. Our class teachers always welcome the opportunity to discuss your child’s needs and progress.
