Learning Advice for Parents
Small world play is a fantastic tool for supporting children’s development in the early years. Used as a story prompt or scene for the retelling of a favourite book, it can be invaluable in helping young children make sense of literacy in a kinaesthetic way.
Learning Focus
Encourage your child to think and talk about their interests. Let your child lead the learning, deciding how to create a small world for their interest. Go on a hunt around your home and any outside spaces to find natural resources such as leaves, sticks, flowers or stones. Support your child to choose for themselves but also to explain why they have chosen. It’s ok to help out too. In school we might say “I love the leaf you have chosen, it makes a good shelter for your dinosaur.”
Remember, the learning is in the process, not just the end product!
Promoting Independence
Choosing is a great way to promote independence, build resilience and a ‘have a go’ attitude. Sometimes, we can limit the choices and if we are using all our skills we can offer 2 choices, both of which we would like to happen. For example, wearing our mask is not a choice, but we can choose whether we would like the blue mask or the green mask? Young children respond best when they feel in control of their surroundings. Offering choices gives them control.
Active Learning
Welcome to the Car Wash
Wash your car, bike or scooter today. Washing a vehicle with sponges, and by pouring water on the vehicle using heavy jugs, helps to build strong muscles in our shoulders, arms and hands. Have fun!
Story Time
Emergency
There is a repeated line (refrain) in today’s story, just like in many of our favourite stories in Nursery. We love it when children join in too. You might like to join in saying ‘Help is coming - it’s on the way!’ How about saying it in different ways, with different expression?
Did you enjoy our stories last week? Check out our digital bookshelf to listen to your favourite ones again. Just like last week, page 1 is the stories read in English and on page 2, they are read in Thai.
We Love to See Your Learning!
We really love to see videos and photos of what you have been doing at home. The best way to share this with us is via the Seesaw App. You should have received communication about how to download and login to the app. If you have not received this, please email the ISIT helpdesk- helpdesk@patana.ac.th
Resource Packs
If you have picked up your child's resource pack, they may already be very excited to explore what's inside. Whilst there may be times that we encourage the use of certain resources, we would love for your child to have access to these, whenever they wish. Below are some ideas about how you can enhance this learning.
Home-School Communication
We hope that you enjoy engaging with our Nursery Blog.
If you have any concerns or queries about your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher via email. They can then arrange a mutually convenient time to meet via MS Teams. Our class teachers always welcome the opportunity to discuss your child’s needs and progress.
