Learning Advice for Parents

Tiger Spirit Day

Every year we celebrate Tiger Spirit day. We come together as a whole school to think about others. It is a day when we dress up and show our BPS tiger spirit through our kindness and consideration to those around us.

Learning Focus

Are you a Patana Tiger?

Thank you to all the children who already help out at home...keep on building your confidence, resilience and care for the needs of others.

Every day we complete lots of tasks around the house that contain opportunities for children’s learning. Even if you have someone in your house who helps out with these tasks, it is really important that children can help out too. We promote teamwork, shared responsibility and helping each other. We value independence and encourage children to have a go!

Here are some examples:

  • Sorting the laundry - develops the language of size, shape and colour.
  • Watering the plants - promotes understanding of growth, decay and changes over time.
  • Washing up the dishes - uses fine motor skills and also promotes health and self care routines.
  • Laying the table - supports the application of quantity, encouraging children to understand how many are needed. I wonder if we have enough, or too many?
  • Making a shopping list - deciding and planning meals and then looking in the cookbooks to follow a recipe. Children love to make their own lists, please encourage their mark making.
  • Sweeping and mopping the floors - this is great gross motor skill development and also encourages children to think about trip hazards and how to minimise risks.

There is so much learning in everyday activities. I wonder how many tasks your child can help out with today?

Tiger Games

You can print out or make some tiger paws, cut them out and play some tiger games.

  1. Hide and Seek Tiger Paws- Ask someone to hide the paws in the room and then you can see if you can find them all. Don’t forget take turns to hide them.
  2. Move Like Tigers- Spread the tiger paws out in a space, can you creep between the paws like a tiger? You could choose to be a different animal; swing like a monkey, stomp like an elephant, bounce like a frog.

Promoting Independence

Physical Development- Health and Self Care

Health and self care are an important part of your child’s learning and development. Across CSL we have highlighted many of the skills your child should be working towards being able to do independently.

Children learn through choosing, trying and doing things for themselves. If you always insist on doing it for them they will never have the opportunity to learn for themselves.

Lots of praise and encouragement makes children feel proud of what they have managed to achieve.

Have confidence in your child’s ability to do things for themselves.

Active Learning

Tiger Boo

Can you pretend to be a tiger and explore along with the Tiger Boo song?

Or dance along with this tiger?

We Love to See Your Learning!

What could you share on Seesaw today?

If you haven't done so already, please share a picture of your child dressed up for Tiger Spirit Day.  We would love to see some videos or pictures of them helping out around the home and any other Tiger related exploration they choose to go on throughout the day.
