Learning
Are you up for the challenge of writing a whole novel in a month?
NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is a fun, empowering and engaging way to write creatively. The main challenge is in November but you can also write novels at any time of the year.
Sign up for an account here using my class code below: https://ywp.nanowrimo.org/
You need your parents' permission so ask them to sit with you while you register.
Get started with your first piece of writing now if you want! I will be able to read your writing and offer feedback and support, and you can also share with other students in our classes.
There are also some great resources to help you craft your writing style that you can use.
In November, we will join the challenge and hopefully you will be successful in publishing a whole novel within a month!
Times Table Rockstars - Improving Times Tables
Times tables are a fundamental skill in Maths. To help our students improve this skill, we are using Times Tables Rockstars.
Practising often has a positive impact on the development of this skill and improves recall and confidence.
Please support your child to practise at home. Ideally, they should practise for around ten minutes at least four times a week.
We will have regular practise in school as well.
Class Blogs and home learning
Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs. You will find an overview of your child's learning along with their home learning tasks and any important messages from your child's class teacher.
Please check your child's class blog weekly to stay informed about their learning.
Please encourage your child to complete their home learning.

Global Citizenship
Art bags
In Year 4, students in their Specialist Art classes learnt about the expressionist artist Jean Michel Basquiat, analysing his unique style. Students then got creative and made their own inspired Basquiat illustrations, portraits and paintings on paper, card, canvas, and fabric.
The fabric was sent to the Chiang Mai based community project BEAM over the holiday. BEAM empowers marginalised communities in northern Thailand through sewing skill development and is a wonderful organisation that we are grateful to have the opportunity to partner up with.
BEAM created these amazing tote bags with the Basquiat inspired fabric designs, and we think they look wonderful!
If you would like to purchase one, please send your child
to school with 200b. They can choose their design, and all proceeds will go to
BEAM to help support their all-important sewing skills education.
Thank you for supporting this charity.
Events In The World
You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

- Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
- Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
- Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats outside of classrooms.
- Parents can join in the celebrations.
