Relationship and Sex Education
During Term 3, we will deliver a series of lessons focusing on relationship and sex education. The video below gives an overview of our rationale for teaching this content along with an overview of the curriculum in Year 5 and Year 6.
The videos that we will show are linked in the comments section in YouTube.
Each week, we will share with you what your child has learnt in RSE. We will also let you know what we will be teaching the following week.
1. Question Box
2. Unique Me
3. Human Reproduction
4. Puberty 19th May - Single Sex Lesson
5. Puberty 26th May - Single Sex Lesson
6. Puberty
Mood swings are a normal part of puberty
During puberty your child’s emotions may become stronger and more intense.
Their mood might change more frequently, quickly and randomly.
Your child may have strong emotions that they've never experienced before.
It’s common for them to feel confused, angry or irritated and not know why.
They also might be more sensitive and become more easily upset than usual.
Hormones not only
change your child’s body on the outside…
They’re creating
changes on the inside too!
While your child’s body is adjusting to all the new hormones, so is their brain.
During puberty the brain starts strengthening parts that allow them to feel intense and complex emotions.
However, the part of the brain that is responsible for regulating emotions, deep thinking, reasoning and decision making is often the last to develop.
This can leave your child feeling like their emotions are out of control as they may not have the mental capacity to cope with them just yet, causing even more irritability and frustration.
Get in touch with your child's class teacher if you are concerned with the duration or the severity of mood swings.
Here are some resources to support your conversations about puberty and periods with your child.
ECAs after half term - important information
Block 4 is scheduled to begin on Monday 25th April
Please ensure that you child knows the end of the day arrangements and where they are being picked up. A firm arrangement is best as it avoids confusion and any upsets.
If you have to change arrangements at short notice, please contact your child's class teacher or the Primary Office.
A reminder about Covid restrictions
Please remember that even though parents are allowed on campus, parents are asked not to enter buildings. Thank you for your support.
ATK testing
Remember to submit your child's ATK testing before 5pm on Sunday so that your child can join the learning straight away.
Learning
PSHE - Next Week
As mentioned in the presentation, students will be able to post questions about the learning in their classroom 'question box.' Students can post questions anonymously or with their names on. The purpose of the question box is to empower students to share worries or ask questions they might be too embarrassed to ask face to face. It also helps them develop their understanding of the themes being taught as we progress throughout the unit.
Readers' Cup Books
Readers' Cup has finished. Please send in any Readers' Cup Books that are still at home.
Reading to support learning
Reading for pleasure is very important. It is one of our main objectives as teachers to help students develop a life long love of reading.
We would also like our students to distinguish between 'reading for pleasure' and 'reading for learning'. Both can be enjoyable, and both have their place.
We have just started our theme of learning on Space, and we are so lucky to have such as wonderful stock of Space themed books. Reading non-fiction allows students to be exposed to different genres while helping them to develop their knowledge in a subject.
Please encourage your child to take out some non-fiction texts to support their Space learning.
PE Curriculum Update
Climbing and OAA (Outdoor and Adventurous Activities) requires Patana PE kit, sports shoes, sun hat and water bottle.
Mini Tennis requires Patana PE kit, sports shoes and water bottle.
Dance and Gymnastics require Patana PE kit and water bottle.
Home Learning and Class Blogs
Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs.
Please encourage your child to complete their home learning. Each week, Mathletics tasks are set. These consolidate the week's learning. There is also a Literacy of Connected Learning task based on the learning.
This is posted on your child's class blog.
Global Citizenship
Events In The World
You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Birthdays
We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.
- Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
- Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
- Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats in their classroom.
- Unfortunately, parents can not join in the celebrations.
- Your child's class teacher will however share a photograph with you.
