Celebrating Talent - Art

Georgia O'Keeffe Art Competition Winners!

Aki, Mia and Yining

Thank you to all of the other Year 5 students for taking part.

Celebrating Sport

Saturday represented the inaugural BMAC U11 Athletics event, which Patana were very lucky to host. In total 4 schools were present as students tried to run, throw and jump just that little bit further and faster then their opponents. Which resulted in some fantastic results and plenty of personal bests.

All students participated in great spirt, with staff and parents commenting on the fantastic atmosphere of the event.

Patana were declared the winners on the day with both the boys and girls scoring more points then the other schools.

A big well done to all students and a big thank you to all the staff and parents for supporting on the day.

Please see below for results on the day.

Learning

To Infinity and Beyond

Entry Point: Thursday 21st April - Please send your child to school in their PE kit.

We will start our new unit of learning: To Infinity and Beyond. We will explore space and the history of space travel, asking ourselves some big questions.

How does space exploration impact humanity?

During this unit, students will build on their key understandings of Planet Earth, making links to prior learning from our 'Water Water Everywhere?' and 'Rainforests' themes.

In Science, they will ask questions and explore important concepts about the Earth, sun, moon and our solar system. From a historical perspective, they will learn about the space race and mankind’s journey to the moon and beyond.

In Literacy, students will be immersed in 'Cosmic Disco Poetry' developing a sense of awe and wonder about planet Earth and the solar system as well as exploring the possibility of wider space travel through the eyes of a fictitious astronaut travelling to planet Mars. This will culminate in them becoming cosmic songwriters.

In Design and Technology, students will apply their practical problem solving skills, combined with their creativity, to design and make a space buggy for intergalactic travel!

At regular points throughout this learning theme, time will be given to reflect and discuss their growing understandings of Earth in Space and reflect on our essential question: How does space exploration impact humanity?

Home Learning and Class Blogs

Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs.

Please encourage your child to complete their home learning. Each week, Mathletics tasks are set. These consolidate the week's learning. There is also a Literacy of Connected Learning task based on the learning.

This is posted on your child's class blog.

Global Citizenship

Events In The World

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show.  Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Birthdays

We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.

  • Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
  • Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
  • Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats in their classroom.
  • Unfortunately, parents can not join in the celebrations.
  • Your child's class teacher will however share a photograph with you.
