Children accessing adult content - IMPORTANT
It is now very easy for children to view adult content online, including sexual and graphically violent images. Some parents and carers may not be aware of just how easy it is for a child to access pornography, even if this is just being shown a clip on a friend’s phone.
It is no longer uncommon for children to stumble upon sexually explicit images. For example, if your child is interested in manga and anime, they may be directed towards hen-tai sites. Hentai is a genre of manga that often includes highly sexualised characters and explicit images and stories.
We have filters at school which prevent the viewing of such images and strongly encourage parents to check the parental control filters on any personal devices used at home.
It’s important to note that there are many
excellent anime sites that are suitable for children, and which take into
account a child’s age, interests and level of maturity.

Relationship and Sex Education
This week, we have shared the question box with Year 5 students. Next week, we will explore how students are unique, but they have inherited physical characteristics from their parents and grandparents.
Please reach out to your child's class teacher if you have any questions regarding our RSE curriculum.
Here are some resources to support your conversations about puberty and periods with your child.
ECAs - important information
Please ensure that you child knows the end of the day arrangements and where they are being picked up. A firm arrangement is best as it avoids confusion and any upsets.
If you have to change arrangements at short notice, please contact your child's class teacher or the Primary Office.
A reminder about Covid restrictions
Please remember that even though parents are allowed on campus, parents are asked not to enter buildings. Thank you for your support.
ATK testing
Remember to submit your child's ATK testing before 5pm on Sunday so that your child can join the learning straight away.
Learning
Getting changed after PE
Please remind your child to bring their uniform with them on PE days. It is also an expectation that students bring their school shoes with them to school on PE days to change into after their PE lesson.
Please be reminded that school shoes should be completely black. If your child has black trainers as their school shoes, they should bring a different pair of shoes to wear during PE.
Readers' Cup Books
Readers' Cup has finished. Please send in any Readers' Cup Books that are still at home.
Reading to support learning
Reading for pleasure is very important. It is one of our main objectives as teachers to help students develop a life long love of reading.
We would also like our students to distinguish between 'reading for pleasure' and 'reading for learning'. Both can be enjoyable, and both have their place.
We have just started our theme of learning on Space, and we are so lucky to have such as wonderful stock of Space themed books. Reading non-fiction allows students to be exposed to different genres while helping them to develop their knowledge in a subject.
Please encourage your child to take out some non-fiction texts to support their Space learning.
PE Curriculum Update
Climbing and OAA (Outdoor and Adventurous Activities) requires Patana PE kit, sports shoes, sun hat and water bottle.
Mini Tennis requires Patana PE kit, sports shoes and water bottle.
Dance and Gymnastics require Patana PE kit and water bottle.
Home Learning and Class Blogs
Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs.
Please encourage your child to complete their home learning. Each week, Mathletics tasks are set. These consolidate the week's learning. There is also a Literacy of Connected Learning task based on the learning.
This is posted on your child's class blog.
Global Citizenship
Events In The World
You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Birthdays
We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.
- Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
- Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
- Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats in their classroom.
- Unfortunately, parents can not join in the celebrations.
- Your child's class teacher will however share a photograph with you.
