Year 5 Newsletter 20th May 2022

Living our values

We are active stewards.

You may remember our Year 5 ‘Walk for Water’ fundraiser challenge in December 2021. This week, we were delighted to invite the recipient charity onto campus to share how our donation was spent and to learn about the impact it had on local communities within Cambodia.

The children were thrilled to learn they had raised almost 250,000 THB. They were shown photos of the 16 wells that were purchased with the money collected. It was a wonderful opportunity to make real connections with an international community, bringing the issue of water scarcity to life.

As a year group, the children should be incredibly proud of their achievements!

Busking Day

Mosquito protection

With the rainy season comes an unwelcome increase in the mosquito population.

Our Buildings and Grounds team continue to spray buildings and outside areas.

Relationship and Sex Education

This week, we have explored puberty.

Students learnt how their bodies change as they grown older and why this happens. They were introduced to scientific language to describe and discuss their bodies and what happens to them.

The girls had an opportunity to look at many products used during menstruation.

Boys were introduced to quite a few terms during the session. The activity is attached below for your reference.

On the 2nd June, students will learn about the changes that the opposite sex go through during puberty.

Next week, we will look at how emotions can change throughout puberty and how students can manage this and look after their mental health.

New school shoes for the new school year

Please add plain black school shoes to your August shopping list.

Shoes should be durable and support the whole foot.

Plain black shoes can be sourced in many shops and department stores in Bangkok.

If your child has to wear other shoes for a specific reason, please let the teacher know.

Students should wear different footwear during PE lessons.

This is posted on your child's class blog.

Global Citizenship

Musician of the Month - Let's celebrate music

The featured musicians, Bangkok Paradise Molam International Band, are quite an eclectic mix of Thai traditional and Western style instruments based on Molam music of Isaan.

Events In The World

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show.  Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Birthdays

We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.

  • Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
  • Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
  • Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats in their classroom.
  • Unfortunately, parents can not join in the celebrations.
  • Your child's class teacher will however share a photograph with you.
