A note from the Principal

A note from the Principal

A highlight of this week, perhaps even the term, was International Day on Tuesday. With over 60 nationalities represented in our parade, six cultures highlighted in the cultural show and a huge variety of country cuisine in the Food Hall, it really was quite spectacular. A huge thank you to PTG, Marketing, Building and Grounds, ISIT and all those who helped to organise this special occasion.

The return of International Day, and other events and activities, is perhaps a barometer that the worst of the pandemic appears to be behind us. As we emerge from the malaise of the last few years, it is so wonderful to see the energy, vibrancy, happiness and human connection that these occasions bring.

Down in Nursery, they have also been experiencing the joys of life and I invite you to enjoy our video footage of one of our class butterflies emerging from its cocoon. Thank you to Mr Jeck for setting up a GoPro to capture this sight!

Proud of you Patana!

Well-being

Sports Day

Year 5 Staff and students are looking forward to Monday's Sports Day starting at 7:40am. If your child comes to school by car, please ensure they arrive in plenty of time.

Please remind your child to come to school in a full PE kit.

Other important points:

  • Bring a sunhat, water bottle and their school uniform to change into at the end of the morning.
  • Ensure they have applied plenty of sunscreen before they come to school.
  • We would like to encourage students to bring their morning snack in from home on this day so that they can have their morning break inside the Y6 building. This will give them some time out of the heat.
  • Year 5 will start on the track events on the back field.

Diversity and Inclusion Parent Workshop - 24th November in the Primary Hall at 8am

DEIJ- Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Justice Workshop is an introductory workshop on DEIJ hosted by PTG & Cindy Adair, Cross Campus Principal CPL on November 24th at 8AM, Secondary Staff Room.

This workshop will aim to share the start of our journey as a school to ensure that every community member (regardless of race, gender, nationality, body type or sexuality) feels protected, safe and secure as well as a sense of belonging.

Learning

Readers' Cup Final is coming up

Congratulations to the Year 5 students for doing so well in the first round of the Readers' Cup and to the class winners. The final will be on Thursday 24th November.

PSHE

This week in PSHE, we have been learning about rumours, teasing and name calling and how detrimental these behaviours can be to children. We looked at how everyone has to take accountability for their actions and support others by being upstanders, pointing out unacceptable behaviours and not giving into peer pressure to join in.

Please encourage your child to reach out for support if and when they experience any of these.

From the ICT Team

Dear Families,

It was wonderful to see so many of you during the 3-way conference open day and we hope you got a glimpse as to what the children get up to in their IT lessons each week.

As there were so many visitors, we were not able to speak to everyone, so if you do have any questions, please feel free to email me.

Lots of people were interested in the resources and tools on show so I thought it would be helpful to share some links for you to explore with your children at home.

Everything listed below is free to use or can be accessed using your child's school email address and password.

Year 5 Swimming: Pajama swim !

LIFESAVING AND WATER SAFETY: Please can students bring Pajamas or a lightweight long sleeved top and shorts / long sleeved trousers to their swimming lesson week beginning Monday 28th November.

All students will be learning vital lifesaving and water safety skills, wearing these clothes over the top of their swim kits. Therefore please do not forget to bring your actual swim kits to the lesson as well! Students and class teachers will receive a reminder nearer to the lesson also.

Children must change out of their PE kits after PE lessons. Please ensure that your child brings their uniform with them to school.

Children who have Cross Country during lunch time should come to school wearing their school uniform and change into their PE kit at the beginning of lunch time.

Class Blogs and home learning

Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs. You will find an overview of your child's learning along with their home learning tasks and any important messages from your child's class teacher.

Please check your child's class blog weekly to stay informed about their learning.

Please encourage your child to complete their home learning.

Water Charity visit

On Tuesday the 22nd of November, we will welcome back to Bangkok Patana School representatives from one of our chosen Year 5 charities, Abercrombie and Kent Philanthropy. During the morning, the charity will deliver a presentation sharing their work across Southeast Asia, and how they use our donations to build wells in poor communities with limited access to clean water. Once we have learnt about wells in depth, all the children will participate in a collaborative STEM project in small teams to build water pipelines.

Events In The World

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show.  Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Birthdays

We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.

  • Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
  • Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
  • Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats outside of classrooms.
  • Parents can join in the celebrations.
