Year 5 Newsletter 17th November

17 November 2023

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents, This week, I have enjoyed being in classes much more than usual as I am dropping in to support our new cohort of teachers. These drop-ins are part of our new staff induction and are a great opportunity to talk about all the fantastic learning that is happening! I am also being ‘class teacher’ on a Thursday in Y5A, and I am currently brushing up on my Art skills.

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our Parent-Teacher meetings and 3-way conferencing today. We love showcasing the work of our students and having a chance to connect with you. We also look forward to seeing many of our families on Monday for International Day.

Please make sure that your child comes to school in their PE when they have athletics and that they bring a uniform and school shoes to get changed into afterwards.

They will need the following for athletics: hat, PE kit and a water bottle.

All students should wear sunscreen as it is extremely hot.

Swimming:

Swimming requires black swimsuit/swim shorts, swim cap (for hair longer than shoulder length) goggles and towel. Black rash vest is optional and sunscreen is recommended.

On swimming days, students should come to school in their uniform.

Class Blogs and home learning

Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs. You will find an overview of your child's learning along with their home learning tasks and any important messages from your child's class teacher.
Please check your child's class blog weekly to stay informed about their learning.
Please encourage your child to complete their home learning.

Global Citizenship

Preparing for International Day

On Monday 20th, we will be celebrating International Day. Please can your child come dressed in their traditional country dress, or clothes in the colour of their flag.

The day will start as normal. Please drop your child off at their class for registration, Your child can meet you at the tent on the back field.

The parade starts at 7:50am.

The cultural show will start at approximately 8:55am. Parents are invited to watch the cultural show from the balcony upstairs. Please do not go into the hall. There is not enough space in the hall for parents. Thank you for your understanding.

Events In The World

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show.  Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Birthdays

We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.

  • Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
  • Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
  • Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats outside of classrooms.
  • Parents can join in the celebrations.
