A note from the Principal

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

I hope this finds everyone well. A couple of highlights to share with you this week. On Tuesday, Peter Taylder and I presented to almost 200 parents on our vision for Assessment and Reporting. It was a great session, where we looked at the new CAT 4 data and the upcoming changes to the report templates. The powerpoint can be found on the Parent Gateway and here. There will be another workshop exploring this theme on Tuesday, 28 November.

In our assemblies we have been considering ‘what makes us special’. We had a sneak peek at some of some of our 243 student FlipGrid videos (so far!) and considered how we can all contribute to our community of kindness. We love when parents join our assemblies as it helps us to reinforce our values and gives parents an opportunity to see what we are learning. This is a wonderful story on belonging and we would love everyone to re-watch it at home.

This busy Principal is off to Kuala Lumpur today for the Fobisia leadership conference!

Well-being

Year 4 students can use the Snack-bar before school and at break times to buy a snack. Alternatively, they can bring a healthy snack from home.

Snacks should be an  individual portion as students should not share snacks with friends. All snacks  should be nut free.

Students should also bring their own water bottle to school everyday.

Learning In Year 4

Term 1B

This week and next, we will be taking part in lots of activities in order to get to know each other and our new environment. The children have settled well into  their new classes and we are encouraging them to explore and develop new friendships. This will continue throughout the term and year through our PSHE curriculum.

Next week, we will begin our new  learning theme of 'Chocolate'.

For more information please visit our Year 4 Curriculum Page.

Music

Music - Recorders

Our Recorder Unit has started this week. Most children should have their own recorder which was given on loan to them in Year 3 - please do support them to remember to bring their instrument to school for their music class. For new students to Patana we will provide an instrument for them for the duration of the school year. Children can take their instrument home to practice and should remember to bring it for their weekly music class. At the end of Year 4, or if a student is leaving the school before then, the recorder is collected back by the music department.

You may prefer to purchase your own recorder with the advantage of keeping one in school for class and one at home for practice. Our usual model is Yamaha YRS - 24B and these are easily available online at stores such as Lazada.

There are two recorder units throughout the year with all of the resources taught in class available on the music firefly page so that children can access the learning materials remotely.

PE

A message from the PE Team:

Primary PE and Sports Week

On Thursday 9th November, Year 4 will participate in their Swimming Gala. On Tuesday 7th November – 1235 - 1300, Year 4 students are encouraged to take part in a self-challenge at lunchtimes. Some of the awards on offer will include;

  1. Class with the most participants.
  2. Speed Bounce Champion
  3. Fastest 30m Sprinter

Students will not need to change for the activity but we kindly request that students wear trainers in the sports hall.

If students wish to participate, they are invited to come to the sport shall on the following days and times.

Term 1B

As Year 4 PE lessons are before break time, the children can arrive at school in their PE kits (or swimming kits underneath their PE kits). They will then need to change into their uniforms at the end of the PE lesson.

PE KIT:

Athletics lessons require Patana PE kit; water bottle and PE shoes.

Swimming lessons require black or Patana swim kit, swimhat, goggles and towel. Long sleeved rash vest / suit optional.
