Welcome to Term 1B
A note from the Principal
Dear Parents,
We are delighted to have all our students back after their mid-term break this week. It has been a busy, albeit short, week, with some exciting events such as a visit from musicians from Oundle School in the UK, preparations for the Solo festival, and the hosting of a conference with the renowned educational researcher, Dylan Wiliam.
As we look forward to Term 1B, we are revisiting
what creates a healthy learning environment at Patana. Over the next few weeks,
we'll be exploring "what makes us special" within our educational
setting, and we've assigned a video project to our students for this purpose.
We encourage your child to participate by submitting a video – these will be featured in
upcoming assemblies. Furthermore, the year group with the most entries will
earn an additional playtime!
Next Tuesday, we will be hosting a parent workshop introducing the developments
in assessment and reporting. This is the 1st of 3 workshops
dedicated to this topic and we hope to see you there.

Well-being
We do not allow any nuts to be brought into Primary. This includes snacks on school transport, birthday treats and food items brought in for any other special days.
Some treats, such as macarons contain hidden nuts. Please check the ingredients before sending into school. If snacks or birthday treats are found to contain nuts, we will contact you and either dispose of the food safely or ask you to collect and take back home.
Learning In Year 4
Term 1B
This week and next, we will be taking part in lots of activities in order to get to know each other and our new environment. The children have settled well into their new classes and we are encouraging them to explore and develop new friendships. This will continue throughout the term and year through our PSHE curriculum.
Next week, we will begin our new learning theme of 'Chocolate'.
For more information please visit our Year 4 Curriculum Page.
Music
Music - Recorders
Our Recorder Unit has started this week. Most children should have their own recorder which was given on loan to them in Year 3 - please do support them to remember to bring their instrument to school for their music class. For new students to Patana we will provide an instrument for them for the duration of the school year. Children can take their instrument home to practice and should remember to bring it for their weekly music class. At the end of Year 4, or if a student is leaving the school before then, the recorder is collected back by the music department.
You may prefer to purchase your own recorder with the advantage of keeping one in school for class and one at home for practice. Our usual model is Yamaha YRS - 24B and these are easily available online at stores such as Lazada.
There are two recorder units throughout the year with all of the resources taught in class available on the music firefly page so that children can access the learning materials remotely.
