Year 4 Newsletter 10.11.23

We are  balanced and fulfilled

The Year 4 teachers were super proud of our students on Thursday after some excellent participation in the swimming gala. It was wonderful to see everybody trying their best and giving their all. We were also very impressed with how well the children supported and encouraged their team mates . Well done Year 4!

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

It has been a superb week here in Patana Primary with a range of exciting events and activities! First up, some staff and parent sessions with consultant Kim Scott on the benefits of play and playful learning. Then we were quickly into our Sporting events, including our Sports Days and Swim Galas. On Thursday, it was the Y5 Readers Cup and then we finished the week with Friendship Friday.

A huge thank you to all the students who took part in our recent Flip Grid competition on ‘what makes us special’. We received a whopping 405 entries and special commendation is due to the Year 6 students, who impressed us with a remarkable 122 video entries. Following closely behind, the Year 2 students submitted an impressive 118 videos. To celebrate their enthusiastic participation, both year groups have received the highly anticipated prize of an extra playtime in a campus location of their choice. Here’s a small sample of the responses!

Hope to see some of you at the PTG Big Night Out on Saturday!

Student Council

The student councillors launched this year’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal in our assembly on Wednesday. This year the boxes we collect will spread joy and happiness to children at the Mercy Centre and The Good Shepherd which are our charities this year. Thank you for helping your child connect with our community in this way.

3 Way Conferences

We are really looking forward to celebrating your child’s learning journey on Friday 17th November. The following information was sent via email by the Primary Office on Thursday 9th November, but here it is again, just in case!

In Years 4, 5 & 6, Conferences are scheduled for individual students, parents/carers, and the class teacher for 15 minutes.

Please view this video to see what our 3-Way Conferences look like for our older children.

NB: If your child is in Year 3-6 and receives EAL (English as an Additional Language) support, you should also visit your child’s EAL classroom to meet with their teacher and share some of their learning with you.

We recommend you allocate at least one hour for your visit, so your child can continue to show you their learning before and/or after their time slot.

The canteen will not be serving student lunches on this day.

Specialist Subjects:

Although there are no appointments with specialist teachers, your child is encouraged to collect stickers in their Conference Passport by visiting our specialist areas and participating in some of the learning on offer.

You can:

  • Pop in to the Languages Building to view your child’s Thai and/or MFL learning

  • Go to the Sports Hall or the Physical Development Room and take part in some PE games and challenges

  • Visit the library and enjoy sharing a book with your child and take part in some fun library challenges.

  • Visit the Technology Rooms (Years 3, 4 and 5 only)

  • Play in our adventure playgrounds - but remember to follow our safety rules!

IMPORTANT: Our specialist areas will close at 4pm. If you have a later appointment for your child’s conference, please arrange to visit the specialist areas beforehand.

Please also note that:

Children should wear their school uniform to their conference.

The school is closed for regular lessons.

All ECAs have been cancelled.

All transport has been cancelled.

If you have any questions, please contact the Primary Office, your child’s class teacher or Mrs Julie Kelly (juke@patana.ac.th).

Well-being

Year 4 students can use the Snack-bar before school and at break times to buy a snack. Alternatively, they can bring a healthy snack from home.

Snacks should be an  individual portion as students should not share snacks with friends. All snacks  should be nut free.

Students should also bring their own water bottle to school everyday.

PTG

Learning In Year 4

Term 1B

This week and next, we will be taking part in lots of activities in order to get to know each other and our new environment. The children have settled well into  their new classes and we are encouraging them to explore and develop new friendships. This will continue throughout the term and year through our PSHE curriculum.

Next week, we will begin our new  learning theme of 'Chocolate'.

For more information please visit our Year 4 Curriculum Page.

Music

Music - Recorders

Our Recorder Unit has started this week. Most children should have their own recorder which was given on loan to them in Year 3 - please do support them to remember to bring their instrument to school for their music class. For new students to Patana we will provide an instrument for them for the duration of the school year. Children can take their instrument home to practice and should remember to bring it for their weekly music class. At the end of Year 4, or if a student is leaving the school before then, the recorder is collected back by the music department.

You may prefer to purchase your own recorder with the advantage of keeping one in school for class and one at home for practice. Our usual model is Yamaha YRS - 24B and these are easily available online at stores such as Lazada.

There are two recorder units throughout the year with all of the resources taught in class available on the music firefly page so that children can access the learning materials remotely.

Should you have any queries please contact lima@patana.ac.th

PE

Term 1B

As Year 4 PE lessons are before break time, the children can arrive at school in their PE kits (or swimming kits underneath their PE kits). They will then need to change into their uniforms at the end of the PE lesson.

PE KIT:

Athletics lessons require Patana PE kit; water bottle and PE shoes.

Swimming lessons require black or Patana swim kit, swimhat, goggles and towel. Long sleeved rash vest / suit optional.
