Y3 Newsletter 29.08.25

It's been an incredible start to the new school year. The children have come in so enthusiastically into their new year group and classes. We have had a very busy first full week as teachers and students have been getting to know each other. We would like to extend a warm welcome to the new families who joined us and we look forward to helping you all settle in very quickly.

A note from the Principal

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents

It has been a very positive start to the term, with our first full week in Primary going smoothly. Teachers have remarked on how well the children have settled, and there is already a lovely sense of calm across the school.

Next Tuesday, we look forward to welcoming you to our first Parent Partnership session at 8.00am. Later that day, our Year 1–6 teachers will also be hosting their ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions.

Have a great weekend!

Wellbeing

Playground use before and after school

Students are not permitted to use any of the climbing or play equipment before 7:30 a.m.

There is no staff supervision in any play area after 2:30.

The accompanying adult is therefore responsible for the safe supervision of the child.

We encourage parents and family employees to take children straight home at the end of the school day.

Getting to class on time

Students in Years 1-6 enter their buildings at 7:30.

This gives everyone time to organise their belongings and settle themselves in, ready to learn and in a calm state of mind.

The register is taken at 7:40, and children who arrive after 7:40 are marked as late.

If there is a pattern of lateness during the term, the class teacher will share this information with you so that changes to timings can be made.

Sometimes, a family will need to adjust their arrival time so that a child can be walked in (Years 1 and 2) or dropped off without feeling rushed or stressed.

The start of the day is a very important part of our daily classroom routine.

Teachers use this time to re-set expectations as students switch from home to school mode. This is a time when school staff can check in with individual students and make sure that everyone feels welcomed into class.

Taking photos and videos of students on Campus

At Bangkok Patana School we welcome parents on to our campus.

As part of this agreement, all parents must agree to our Parents’ Safeguarding Code of Conduct.

This includes:

  • Never taking images in toilets, changing rooms or areas where privacy is expected.
  • Using judgement before taking and before sharing images of students.

During a regular school day, parents may only take images of their own child – unless they have sought and received permission from another family to include their child in a group photo.

Family employees with access to the campus must also abide by this rule.

Where and when can parents take photos and videos when on campus?

Smile Squad

As we settle into Y3 the children have been reminded of our positive behaviours and attitudes. We have also started the Smile Squad to help everyone feel welcome.

This week in our assembly, we introduced the Smile Squad. First, we watched two videos and discussed how the way we act might make other people feel. We decided that we wanted to be more like the teachers and students in the second video. The teachers and students in the second video belong in the Smile Squad!

In the Smile Squad, we:

-   say hello

-   use each other’s names

-   say goodbye

-   say please & thank you

-   ask ‘How are you?’

Each week, we will choose Smile Stars of the Week who will receive a special Smile Squad praise postcard. We will also add their picture to the Smile Squad Hall of Fame.

Morning Snack in Key Stage 2

From the week beginning the 8th September Year 3 may bring in a healthy snack from home or buy one from the Snack Bar.

Prior to this date snacks will be provided in the year group as they were in Key Stage 1. Please do not send sweets, chocolate or gum into school. We provide plain or soymilk for every student each break time. Students may bring their own water bottle to school.

Nut Free Primary School

For some children, any exposure to nuts is potentially very dangerous and can be life threatening.

We do not allow any nuts to be brought into Primary. This includes snacks on school transport, birthday treats and food items brought in for any other special days.

Some treats, such as macarons contain hidden nuts. Please check the ingredients before sending into school. If snacks or birthday treats are found to contain nuts, we will contact you and either dispose of the food safely or ask you to collect and take back home.

Snack cards

The class teachers are keeping the snack cards safely in the classrooms until September the 8th.  Over the next week the children will be learning all about using the snack bar and managing a budget! I would suggest no than 200 baht to get started. The children are very excited about getting their snack cards.

To help you see what is on offer at the Primary snack bar please see below:

A few reminders

  • Hats - your child needs a hat to access all the play areas and for PE lessons. It is best to be left in school all week.
  • Water bottles.
  • Naming property - Please put your child's name and class code on all their uniform, shoes, hats and waterbottles to ensure a safe return if they get left behind! You can buy name stickers from the Tiger shop.

Shoes

  • Primary students are expected to wear white socks and plain black shoes to school. Please see examples below

Hair

  • Hair should be neat and conservative in appearance.
  • Hair longer than shoulder-length should be tied back.

School Jumpers

  • Only the blue Patana school cardigan should be worn at school. These can be purchased at the school shop.

Watches

  • We encourage the children to wear a digital or analogue watch to help them learn the time.
  • Smart watches are not to be worn during the school day. They are kept in bags during the day.

Bags for PE day

  • On PE days the children come to school in PE, with their uniform and school shoes in their bags to change into. Please ensure your child has their uniform and shoes in a separate bag which to be big enough to fit in the uniform and their school shoes. This helps to avoid things getting lost.

Swimming

  • On swimming days your child should wear their uniform to school. They need to bring their swimming kit in a bag (swimsuit, goggles, towel, swimming hat). Thank you.

Learning

Y3 Curriculum Term 1a

Our main focus for the first few weeks will be settling the children in as they transition to a new Key Stage by helping them move around the school from the classroom to specialist lessons as well as slowly introduce them to the Primary Snack Bar. We will learn all about how to use it in our Maths lessons next week. If you would like more information about our curriculum please visit our Curriculum page here

Reading

The children will be changing their reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This week the children have been given a reading book based on their stage from Year 2, and from reading with their new teacher.

Please can you support your child by encouraging reading at home, either reading to you or a sibling and helping to remind them to bring their books in (if finished) on book change days.

Music

The children will be learning the recorder this term. You will have received an email about where you can buy these. Please ensure the recorder is named.

Class Blogs

Please visit our class blogs to find out about our learning in each of the classes!
