Happy Peace Day to you all!
A note from the Principal
This week we thoroughly enjoyed Maths Week, with consultants and long-term Patana partners Andrew Jeffry and Liz Gibbs leading students through exciting learning activities, providing staff consultation and training, and hosting an engaging and very busy parent workshop explaining our curriculum!
If you would like to attend future parent sessions, please kindly remember to sign up in advance so that we can prepare appropriate catering and seating.
Have a lovely long weekend!

Wellbeing
Positive Behaviours - Positive Attitudes
As you walk around the school, you are almost certain to spot our Safe – Curious – Kind posters.
Many, if not all, of the behaviours and attitudes we want for our students can be explicitly taught.

Egyptian Day
We are very excited in Y3 to be introducing a new learning theme based around the Egyptians. On Friday 10th October we will have an Egyptian Day at school. You do not need to prepare anything for this day as we will be creating our costumes in our Art lessons leading up to Egyptian day.
Preventing the spread of colds and flu
Please help us to prevent outbreaks of cold or flu as we head into the rainy season.
Children with cold or flu (influenza) symptoms should be kept at home until they are completely recovered.
Even when the main symptoms have gone, your child may still need time to return to full strength.
Please do not send your child back to school too soon, even if they are no longer in the contagious phase.
If your child is still coughing or sneezing, please keep them at home and limit their contact with other children.
A child who has a fever should be kept at home until ‘fever free’ for a minimum of 24 hours.
Influenza is a serious and contagious infection that affects the nose, throat, and respiratory system.
The virus is commonly spread through droplets in the air, allowing infection to spread quickly.
When unsure, always seek medical advice, especially if a child has a chronic condition e.g., asthma.
If Influenza is confirmed, please send a copy of the medical certificate to Nurse@patana.ac.th
Getting to class on time
Students in Years 1-6 enter their buildings at 7:30.
This gives everyone time to organise their belongings and settle themselves in, ready to learn and in a calm state of mind.
The register is taken at 7:40, and children who arrive after 7:40 are marked as late.
If there is a pattern of lateness during the term, the class teacher will share this information with you so that changes to timings can be made.
Sometimes, a family will need to adjust their arrival time so that a child can be walked in (Years 1 and 2) or dropped off without feeling rushed or stressed.
The start of the day is a very important part of our daily classroom routine.
Teachers use this time to re-set expectations as students switch from home to school mode. This is a time when school staff can check in with individual students and make sure that everyone feels welcomed into class.
Shoes
- Primary students are expected to wear white socks and plain black shoes to school. Please see examples below
School Jumpers
- Only the blue Patana school cardigan should be worn at school. These can be purchased at the school shop.
Bags for PE day
- On PE days the children come to school in PE, with their uniform and school shoes in their bags to change into. Please ensure your child has their uniform and shoes in a separate bag which to be big enough to fit in the uniform and their school shoes. This helps to avoid things getting lost.
Swimming
- On swimming days your child should wear their uniform to school. They need to bring their swimming kit in a bag (swimsuit, goggles, towel, swimming hat). Thank you.
Learning
Y3 Curriculum Term 1a
Our main focus for the first few weeks will be settling the children in as they transition to a new Key Stage by helping them move around the school from the classroom to specialist lessons as well as slowly introduce them to the Primary Snack Bar. We will learn all about how to use it in our Maths lessons next week. If you would like more information about our curriculum please visit our Curriculum page here
Reading
The children will be changing their reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please can you support your child by encouraging reading at home, either reading to you or a sibling and helping to remind them to bring their books in (if finished) on book change days.
