Well-being
Preventing the spread of Gastro-intestinal Infections
When several children are absent due to vomiting and/or diarrhoea, it is highly likely due to the spread of a gastro-intestinal (GI) infection.
Clusters of children from the same class or friendship group may become ill and display the same symptoms.
Symptoms may include:
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal (stomach) pain
- Tiredness
- Flu-like symptoms
Most common stomach and intestinal infections are infectious, especially between younger children.
GI infections may be caused by a virus, bacteria or parasite.
Preventing the spread of GI infections
Hand washing
We teach the importance of hand washing at school to reduce the spread of infection.
Please model thorough hand washing at home and school, especially after visits to the toilet and before eating any food. This will help to stop the infection from spreading.
Don’t allow children to share snacks
Although we encourage sharing of toys and resources, the sharing of snacks makes it easy for infections to pass from one child to another.
Keep children at home if unwell
Children should only return to school once they are well.
Whilst at home, they need lots of rest and fluids, mainly water, to prevent dehydration.
If symptoms become more severe, the family should seek medical attention.
Returning to school
Children should only start back at school when they are completely free of symptoms.
If a child returns to school still unwell, the parents will be asked to take their child home.
FS children (Nursery/FS1/FS2)
Should be kept at home for at least 48 hours from the last bout of vomiting and/or diarrhea.
Y1 – Y6 children
Should be kept at home for at least 24 hours from the last bout of vomiting and/or diarrhea.
Healthy snacks only please
We are very happy to provide time in the afternoons for your child to have a snack before their ECA or bus. Please ensure that this snack does not include chocolate or sweets. Many thanks for your support with this.
Spare masks
Please ensure your child has a spare mask with them in their bag. As the weather hots up it is nice to have a clean, dry mask when you need it!
Learning - Once Upon a Time
Dress up day
We will be having a fairy tale dress up day on the final day of term 2.
Your child is invited to come to school dressed as a fairy tale character. They could carry a prop from a fairy tale and/or have a costume.
As always, we ask that students are sun safe and have safe shoes on for this dress up day.
Please send in any recycling. We are running very low at the moment and would apprecaite any items you can bring in.
Global Citizenship
Year 1 Charity event - let's learn some spellings!
Your child should now have their spelling list for our Year 1 Spelling Bee. If they have not shared this with you, please contact their class teacher.
Please encourage them to practise spelling their words. We will be testing them on these words at the end of the first week of Term 3- Friday 23rd April.
Musician of the month
This month, our musician is Evelyn Glennie, a Scottish percussionist and composer who lost her hearing as a young child.
Here is a Youtube playlist with some of the best clips of Evelyn Glennie.

- Individualised treats (cupcakes, donuts, etc) can be brought in either at the start of the day or the end of the day
- No Nuts!
- Please ensure that any food items sent in do not contain nuts, or any traces of nuts. Please check the ingredients.
- No candles
- The birthday treats must be individual portions – teachers will not be able to cut pieces of cake to be given out.
Please liaise directly with your child’s class teacher to inform them if you will be bringing in treats for your child’s birthday. Treats can be dropped off before 8:00 and after 2:00.
