Living our school values:

We are diverse and inclusive

A note from the Principal

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

I hope this update finds you and your families well. This week has marked three special events. We celebrated Labour Day, Coronation Day to honour King Maha Vajiralongkorn and, today, King Charles III’s Coronation Day.

Despite the shorter school week, we have been busy and productive. On Monday, we held our twice annual CPL day, which provided an opportunity for our teachers to engage in professional learning across a range of disciplines. We were extremely fortunate to have Tom Sherrington as our keynote speaker, who continues supporting us with evidenced based classroom practices. I was pleased to see so many parents in attendance at Tom's workshop on Tuesday, which was an excellent opportunity to gain further insight into our ethos and pedagogy.

With the especially warm temperatures set to continue, please be assured we are actively monitoring the Heat Index and our Heat Management Guidelines at all times. We want to ensure that our students and staff are safe and comfortable during hot weather, and we take all necessary measures to prevent heat-related illnesses. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Learning

Year 1 - This term in IT we will be learning to code simple animations using Scratch Jr.

This is a free App which you can access and practice simple command sequencing using at home.

Y1 - Scratch Jr - Term 3 - Bangkok Patana School (fireflycloud.asia)

ScratchJr - Home

With ScratchJr, young children (ages 5-7) can program their own interactive stories and games.

www.scratchjr.org

Children will improve their ability to read a sequence of commands and predict what will happen when it is run.

They will also learn to put commands in order to achieve simple goals.

i.e. The character will appear here, move to this position and then say "...".

All year 1 children will be sharing their code and animations in Seesaw in the coming weeks so talking to parents at home about what they have made and maybe making new projects at home would be a great way to consolidate their understanding.

Amazing Thailand

Our theme of learning this term is all about Thailand.  You can find out more on our Curriculum pages.

RSE

Next week we begin by looking at how animals and humans differ when they are babies and adults.

We will be discussing how we change when we learn new skills and that change is expected and normal.

If you were not able to attend the Relationships and Sex Education presentation this week, we have recorded it for you.  You can use the captions and translation tools on YouTube if you would like to.    The videos within the presentation will not play.  If you wish to watch them, they are below the presentation.

You may also find these suggestions for talking with your child helpful.

1.   Baby growing video - for Y3 students only

2. Pantasaurus - Y1, Y2 and Y3

3. Talking to kids about sexual abuse - video for parents.
