Learning Intention - Can I tell the difference between a reliable source and an unreliable source?
Success Criteria
1) I can understand how to tell if a website is likely to be reliable or unreliable
2) I understand the difference between a primary and a secondary source
ESSENTIAL QUESTION
Why is it important to evaluate the source and validity of the information found on a Web site?
ISTE student standards:
Students evaluate the accuracy, perspective, credibility, and relevance of information, media, data, or other resources.
Steps to check:
1. Examine the website that you have found the information on - Who is it by? Have you heard of them? Are they an expert? Are they biased?
2. Cross check with other websites - Try and find at least 2 other websites that either agree or disagree with the information you found on the 1st website.
3. Make a decision, do you trust the website? Use the knowledge you have gained from step 1 and 2.
