6M's Small Steps - More Recycling

Today 6M wrote to me requesting some more info about the recycling options in school. Their email is below. I am always grateful when people share their voice on environmental issues in this way. They have been inspired by their current project (human impact on the environment). In answer to their first question, the Secondary recycling facilities are not being taken away, they are being temporarily moved to the far end of the same corridor where they are now. This is to make way for the new Science Building construction which is under way, and the move is only temporary. In answer to their second question, I will give a full response on Primary School recycling options before their current project ends (before the end of this term).

Recycled Exercise Books

As part of Patana's mission to become a more environmentally sustainable community, we have been working towards a new project that will significantly reduce the school's paper wastage and carbon footprint. Exercise books which are used throughout the primary and secondary school are currently manufactured from non-recycled and heavily machined paper, however we aim to replace this using paper produced from recycled tetrapaks.

Over many weeks we have been working with a company which produces this 'tetrapak paper'. We carried out tests and trials with different students to access the quality of the paper, and to receive comments and feedback about our idea. The results were very positive. We also approached the Heads of Faculty to explain what we had in mind for the next academic year, and they too seemed very interested.
