As part of Patana's mission to become a more environmentally sustainable community, we have been working towards a new project that will significantly reduce the school's paper wastage and carbon footprint. Exercise books which are used throughout the primary and secondary school are currently manufactured from non-recycled and heavily machined paper, however we aim to replace this using paper produced from recycled tetrapaks.
Over many weeks we have been working with a company which produces this 'tetrapak paper'. We carried out tests and trials with different students to access the quality of the paper, and to receive comments and feedback about our idea. The results were very positive. We also approached the Heads of Faculty to explain what we had in mind for the next academic year, and they too seemed very interested.
Recently we organised a meeting between the paper company and our current exercise book manufacturers to discuss the possibility of our idea become a reality, and through this we are confident that they are able to provide the quality and quantity of exercise books we require. Now all that's left is to present our plan to the school to determine whether we can make such a large change in a short period of time.
There are no promises that our aim will be a success, but through the progress we have achieved so far we are extremely hopeful.
