The children are continuing to develop and learn their wonderful sharing skills. Being able to share our space, our toys, our Nursery grown ups and our friends with each other is a really tricky and new skill. We had some kind and helpful superheroes turn up in the Nursery this week, we had great fun with other dressing up too;
You will have noticed in our environment we have relatively small numbers of each of the toys available for the children to use, this is to make it easier for them to help to tidy up. It also helps to teach the children to share and take turns. If the children want to play with a car but there are only two available, they need to problem solve and either; take turns, find something different to play with or ask an adult for another one. We often use sand timers so the children will understand when it is their turn and support them with the language; ‘my turn’, ‘your turn’.
Here are the signs for learning we use to help us;
Can you spot us doing some great cooperative play and good sharing this week?
Learning from home
After the half term break we are very excited that we will be able to go swimming in the learner pool. (You will receive more information about this nearer the time) . Children who are secure in their routines and are listening to and following instructions will be ready to join us for our swimming session each week.
1. I can get dressed and undressed.
In preparation for swimming at school we would like you to practice changing into your school swimsuit and back into your clothes. Sometimes this is a bit tricky but with practice it will get easier.
Whilst we are always here to help, a normal level of development for 2-3 year olds is to be able to help with dressing; pull up and down own shorts/swimsuit/ underwear. We also teach the children to keep their own things together in a pile when they take them off and to pack them into their swimming bags. Please do practice this at home.
Here is a video you can watch with your child so they understand what will happen when we go to the swimming pool;
2. I can put on and take off my shoes.
The fine-motor skills involved in putting on (and taking off) shoes and socks are tricky, we help the children as much as necessary but certainly encourage independence. Can you practice with your child? Whilst we do not expect the children put on their socks by themselves, they can practice pulling them up after being helped to put them over their toes.
Please remember to let us know if your child is unable to come to school for any reason so we can keep our attendance records up to date
Have a lovely weekend,
The Nursery team
