Nursery Continuing Student Learning Monday 14th February 2022

Welcome to the Nursery learning page.

Today's song to wake you up is 'The skeleton dance'

Our learning for today is all about shapes.

“Mathematical development - shape, space and measure concentrates on developing early concepts of size and shape. Nursery children love noticing shapes in our environment. Some of them can already name some simple ‘flat’ shapes such as circle, triangle, square or oblong (rectangle). To deepen this learning we would like the children to begin to understand HOW they know which shape it is. ‘I know it is a circle because it has 1 curved edge. I know it is a square because it has 4 edges that are all the same length.”

Questions you could ask...

  • What different 2D shapes can you find?
  • How many circles, squares, rectangles and triangles did you find? As today is valentines day can you find any hearts too?
  • Did you find any different shapes?
  • Describe the shapes you find and how you know what shape it is?

Here is a song about shapes for you to sing along to;

Promoting independence

We encourage our children to only put in their bowls and on their plates what they will eat, we don’t want to waste food. If it is something you have never had before why don’t you try a little taste to see if you like it?

Active learning- Bowling

Let’s play bowling! Ms Gemma will show us how we can use some recycled bottles as pins and knock them down. Use a ball to kick and roll to knock down the pins! How many points can you get? Have fun.

Storytime

Today's story time with Ms Carol is' Where's Spot?'

Here are our Nursery bookshelves if you would like to find a different story to listen to.

We would love to see videos or photos of your child 's learning from home, it might be linked to the ideas on the blog or it could be something else completely different. Sharing  from home shows us skills your child has which we may not have seen at school and helps us to build up a wider picture of their learning and development.
