Welcome to the Nursery learning page.
Today's song to wake you up is 'Jump'
Our learning today is about sandwiches and shapes.
Today we’re going to make a sandwich and look for shapes at the same time. We want your child to do more than just make a sandwich we would like them to plan what to do, do it (with help if necessary) and review how it went; what it tasted like, did they enjoy making it, how could it have been better?
The first thing to do is to make a plan, your grown up can help with this by asking these questions;
- What kind of sandwich would you like to make? What will the filling be? Cheese, tomato, jam, marmite, cucumber, ham, banana or something else?
- What ingredients will you need? Butter, bread/gluten free bread and Sandwich filling
- Can you draw a picture of your plan and the things you will need?
You will also need;
- A child safe knife to spread the butter and cut some of your ingredients.
- A plate or chopping board
Before you start don’t forget to wash your hands.
Instructions on how to make a sandwich.
1. First take two slices of bread- what shape is your bread?
2. Carefully spread butter onto one slice of bread
3. Prepare your filling- what shape are your chopped tomatoes? Your slices of cheese or ham?
4. Spread or lay filling on top of the buttered bread.
5. Put the second slice of bread on top and cut into pieces- into 2 into 4 or more- what shapes did you make?
6. Enjoy your sandwich.
We are looking for the children to tell us how they made their sandwich, what did it taste like? Can they tell us about the shapes they saw whilst making it?
A shape song to sing along to;
Promoting independence.
Can you help with tidying and
washing up after you make
your sandwich?
Active learning
Today's physical development is some sandwich yoga.
Storytime
Today's story time is 'A big box of shapes' read by Ms Jane;
Here are our Nursery bookshelves if you would like to find a different story to listen to.
Don't forget to share your child 's learning from home, it might be linked to the ideas on the blog or it could be something else completely different. Sharing from home shows us skills your child has which we may not have seen at school and helps us to build up a wider picture of their learning and development.
