Wow! What another brilliant week of learning we have had in Nursery. Take a look at what all our friends have been up to!
Learning Advice for Parents
Learning Focus
My Family
In today's story the owl babies lived in a family of 4. There was mummy, Sarah, Percy and Bill. All of our families are different.
You might like to see the different families that we have in the nursery team:
We would love to know more about your families too! Please can you send us your family photograph?
We will display these as a gallery on the wall in the Nursery:
When we are in school, this creates a fabulous focal point for children to recognise and find themselves. For them to share who is in their family and to observe their friends and their different families too!
For our learning focus today, you can prompt your child to discuss your family. We love to hear the children using full sentences.
Who lives in your family? I live with mummy and daddy.
What do they look like? My daddy is taller than mummy.
How are you the same? I have blue eyes and long hair.
How are you different? I am small.
Use a mirror to look at yourself and see if you can draw a self portrait of yourself. This would be perfect to add to your ‘Me and my world’ book. Remember to add features such as your ears, your eyes, your nose and your mouth.
Promoting Independence
Sarah, Percy and Bill, the owl babies in our story, had to wait and be patient. This is a skill that we need to learn. The passing of time can be a very difficult concept to understand as it is abstract. We can support our children by using timers and clocks to help them. 5 minutes means very little until I have experienced it lots and lots, then I can begin to realise that 5 minutes is short.
In school we might use a sand timer... these are great for watching the sand trickle. We can see time getting less and less:
or an electronic timer, such as these ones...
We might give children the choice of which timer, especially finding ones that spark their interests. This gives children a feeling of control. We want them to feel secure and safe. When the timer is finished we give lots of praise and we follow through consistently on what was agreed before the time was set. This builds trust.
Once we can wait patiently for 5 minutes or longer, we can begin to make the next step using the clock. We might say ‘when the clock is at 10.30am, then it is time for…”
Active Learning
Puzzle Hide and Seek
Let’s play puzzle hide and seek. Ask a grown up to hide the pieces of a puzzle. Move around the room and find the pieces, then complete your puzzle. Completing puzzles is a great way to develop fine motor skills, as children perform small and precise movements when picking up the puzzle pieces.
Story Time
Owl Babies
Today's story is all about feeling 'worried'. This book is great for helping children to understand that sometimes our parents can't always be with us. It reassures them that Mummies and Daddies will come back! We often use this book to help children to separate and settle from their parents when coming to school.
Did you enjoy our stories last week? Check out our digital bookshelf to listen to your favourite ones again. Just like last week, page 1 is the stories read in English and on page 2, they are read in Thai.
We Love to See Your Learning!
We really love to see videos and photos of what you have been doing at home. The best way to share this with us is via the Seesaw App. You should have received communication about how to download and login to the app. If you have not received this, please email the ISIT helpdesk- helpdesk@patana.ac.th
Resource Packs
If you have picked up your child's resource pack, they may already be very excited to explore what's inside. Whilst there may be times that we encourage the use of certain resources, we would love for your child to have access to these, whenever they wish. Below are some ideas about how you can enhance this learning.
Home-School Communication
We hope that you enjoy engaging with our Nursery Blog.
If you have any concerns or queries about your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher via email. They can then arrange a mutually convenient time to meet via MS Teams. Our class teachers always welcome the opportunity to discuss your child’s needs and progress.
