We have had another great week in the Nursery, our children are always curious and enjoy finding out and exploring new things. Here is some of our exciting exploration from this week;
Learning at home suggestion - 5 Little Ducks went swimming
Mathematics is a specific area of learning. That means that it has its roots embedded within the Prime areas. We love counting songs in nursery and one of our favourites is ‘5 Little Ducks went Swimming one day’.
These are the prime areas of learning and how they might connect to the 5 little ducks song.
At home you might like to explore counting objects with a counting finger. You might like to take one away each time and think about how the quantity changes? This could be part of a shared song time or it could be any part of your daily routine such as eating food items or counting steps as you go upstairs. Notice when you get in the lift, which number you press and do the numbers light up as you go up or down?
Learning at home suggestion- Understanding the world
This week Ms Naam found some caterpillars on her way to work. She collected them and put them in a bug box so we could all look at them. We have been very excited to learn more about them. We researched on the ipad what they would need to eat and explored the garden to find some leaves for them. We have been very careful to be gentle with the box when we are looking at them.
At home you might like to explore on a walk near your house or in your garden to see if you can find any insects. It might be a caterpillar, it might be something else. You could find out some more information about what you find using books, the internet or by asking a grown up.
This kind of investigation is an opportunity for your child to extend their language skills and develop an understanding of the world around them.
This story shows what a hungry caterpillar might eat;
Here is one of our favourite songs about how a caterpillar grows;
It was fun to have a non uniform day and collect money for our FS charity today, thank you for your support. We had a great day with our new friends at Nursery;
Have a lovely weekend
