Learning together...

All of the amazing nursery children have had a successful week of learning. Whether you are learning at home or learning in school, there are so many opportunities for communication, for social and emotional interactions and for physical activity.

Here is our last celebration video.

We wonder if your child can recognise their friends and talk about the learning that they have enjoyed?

Learning suggestion on mark making

Mark making opportunities can be so varied and wide. For instance, you can see chalk marks in the garden outside, handprints in the paint, pen marks on a whiteboard, using a paint brush to enclose spaces and creating patterns in the coloured rice. But one thing that is key to supporting learning, is that your child is encouraged to spot the different marks that they can make.

We are looking for children who:

  • Explore mark making widely
  • Create circles and lines
  • Manipulates a range of tools and equipment in one hand
  • Distinguishes between the different marks they make ‘its an elephant’ or ‘look at my car’
  • Enjoy drawing and writing
  • Experiments with ways to enclose a space, using shapes to create representations.

Learning suggestion on tower building

Towers are so exciting to build. Young children especially enjoy the ‘risk’ factor that accompanies a tower. When it begins to wobble as it grows taller and taller, the anticipation of the eventual collapse is great fun! Children will begin to recognise that stability is a key feature of a successful tower. They may begin to notice that some shapes are better than others if you would like the tallest tower. Using bigger blocks at the bottom means that your construction is more secure. Using a flat surface is a better choice, although a slope can create an awesome roof!

Here are some of our tower creations this week…

We are looking for children who can:

  • Recognize that the tower may fall over and be prepared for it
  • Understands concepts such as tall/short flat/slope big/small
  • Uses language to share thoughts and feelings
  • Manipulates blocks and shapes accurately
  • Enjoys using blocks to create their own simple structures and arrangements
  • Explores differences in length and size
  • Responds to some spatial and positional language

Learning suggestion -lets get musical

In our learning calls and at nursery we sing songs all the time.

We have our ‘what’s in the bag’ song and our song sack;

Can you find some toys to make your own songs sack?

Here are some ideas for the songs you might use;

Old MacDonald had a farm,

Baa baa black sheep,

Incy wincy spider,

The wheels on the bus,

Row row row your boat,

5 cheeky monkeys

5 little ducks.

Sleeping bunnies

Singing songs helps our children to;

  • to develop their language skills by repeating words and rhymes
  • to count with their voices and represent numbers with their fingers
  • To move in time to music by clapping hands or moving their whole body
  • Make up their own words and songs to music

Can you make up your own version of your favourite song?

Baa baa pink sheep,  The wheels on the truck, Sleeping dinosaurs....
