Our nursery team is enjoying getting to know the children more and more as each day goes by. We are seeing such confidence and joy in learning. We are hearing conversations, explanations, laughter, giggles, singing and music making. We are sensing when children feel uncertain and need a moment of checking in but mostly we are seeing brave adventurers, trying many things for the very first time!
Please share these learning photographs with your child and see if your child can remember what adventure they were having?
Learning suggestion at home...sharing a story
We are creating learning moments using stories. Sometimes we encourage children to choose their own book from the basket and sometimes we are 'sharing' a story in a smaller, group. The important thing is, asking the children to explain why they chose? Our youngest learners may not always be able to explain yet, so we can offer them a scaffold of words...
Early reading skills are rooted in Communication and Language and Physical Development. These are some of the skills that we are looking for, that you can encourage your child to practise at home too...
- Turning the pages of the book, sometimes several at once!
- Showing control of manipulating the book - this can be a challenge with heavier or bigger books.
- Repeating words or phrases from familiar stories
- Explaining about their favourite stories, rhymes and songs.
- Holding the book the right way up and the right way round.
- Showing interest in the words and the pictures.
...and remember reading is so much FUN!
Learning suggestion at home.... fine motor development
There are lots of games we can play to help us with the physical
development of our fingers. Why don’t you try one or all of these, you can
easily adapt them depending on what you have at home.
- Threading ribbons or string through a gate or fence
- Use a squirty bottle to hit floating toys
- Use a spoon to collect the toys
Today we have celebrated Loy Krathong, it was great to dress up in our Thai costumes we floated leaves and petals on the water trays and enjoyed singing and dancing.
We wish you a wonderful weekend, full of Loy Krathong celebrations.
