Living our values: we are engaged

Note from the Principal

25 August 2023

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

It’s been another superb week in the Primary school with the rhythm of school life firmly back. I have very much enjoyed catching up with the students each lunch time in the canteen and hearing about the excitement of being in a new class. Time passes by so quickly, that I can’t believe that those children who were in Year 4 when I joined Patana are now in their last year of Primary. This year, I am pleased to be teaching Ms. Anna Caswell’s class in Year 5. Each member of the Primary leadership team has a weekly teaching responsibility and I am delighted to be supporting Year 5 for 2 hours a week, when Ms. Anna has her leadership cover. This will be my 20th year as a teacher, another unbelievable passing of time, and I know I still have a lot to learn!

Next Tuesday, we begin our parent partnership series and I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Please RSVP here if you would like to attend.

Sarah McCormack

Smart watches

Last year, we sent out a message to parents to inform them that students should not wear Smart watches to school.

PE

PE blocks

Basketball requires Patana PE kit and water bottle.

Swimming requires black swimsuit/swim shorts, swim cap (for hair longer than shoulder length) goggles and towel. Black rash vest is optional and sunscreen is recommended.

On non swimming days, students should come to school in their PE kits and trainers. Please ensure they have their school uniform and black shoes to change into

Well Being

Preventing the spread of colds and flu

Please help us to prevent outbreaks of cold or flu as we head into the rainy season.

Children with cold or flu (influenza) symptoms should be kept at home until they are completely recovered. Even when the main symptoms have gone, your child may still need time to return to full strength.

Please do not send your child back to school too soon, even if they are no longer in the contagious phase.  If your child is still coughing or sneezing, please keep them at home and limit their contact with other children.

A child who has a fever should be kept at home until ‘fever free’ for a minimum of 24 hours.

Influenza is a serious and contagious infection that affects the nose, throat, and respiratory system. The virus is commonly spread through droplets in the air, allowing infection to spread quickly.

When unsure, always seek medical advice, especially if a child has a chronic condition e.g., asthma.

If Influenza is confirmed, please send a copy of the medical certificate to Nurse@patana.ac.th

Snacks

Students are welcome to bring in a healthy and filling snack to eat at morning breaktimes. Please note NO sweets (candies), energy drinks or large bags of snacks are permitted. Students are not allowed to share snacks.

A reminder - NO NUTS in the primary school

School Cardigan

Some students can find the classroom conditions a little cool , but can wear a school cardigan in class. These can be purchased from the Tiger Shop

Before and After School

Before school starts at 7.30 the Y6 children are allowed to come to the hardcourt. During this time they are not allowed to play ball games or running games.

They are aware of this but might need a few reminders. It would be great if you could help us with this.

From next week, when the adult on duty blows the whistle, they should stand still. On the second whistle, the children can then make their way directly to their classrooms.

Playground use before and after school

Students are not permitted to use any of the climbing or play equipment before 7:30 a.m.

There is no staff supervision in any play area after 2:30pm

The accompanying adult is therefore responsible for the safe supervision of the child.

We encourage parents and family employees to take children straight home at the end of the school day.

School Uniform Reminders

Hair

  • Hair should be neat and conservative in appearance.
  • Hair longer than shoulder-length should be tied back.

Uniform

  • Students should wear black shoes that support the whole foot and allow them to be active. On PE days they should have school shoes in their bag that they can change into after schoo
  • Only the blue school cardigan should be worn at school

Watches

  • We encourage the children to wear a digital or analogue watch to help them learn the time.
  • Smart watches are not to be worn during the school day. They are kept in bags during the day.

Global Citizenship

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.
