Well-being
Digital Safety
Many of our students have their own devices. Some even have their own phones. It is important that we continue to monitor their usage closely in order to keep them safe and to teach them about digital safety.
All devices should be used in a common area in the house such as the living room or kitchen. We strongly advise against students having their device in their bedroom. Devices should also be taken away from your child during bed time so that they can switch off and get a good nights sleep.
Parental Settings on devices
All devices have settings on them. Most have parental settings that you can use to limit or curb some of the access to features available. In school, many students have Smart Watches. If your child does have a Smart Watch that is connected to the WiFi, it must be deactivated during school hours. If a student is found using this to call parents during school time, we will ask them to hand their device in and collect it at the end of the day.
If your child does need to contact you, we have phones in the building and in the Primary Office. If you need to discuss this further, please contact your child's class teacher.
Healthy Eating
We encourage students to bring healthy, reasonably sized snacks to school. A reminder that candy and chocolate are not allowed in school.
It is also our school policy that students do not share snacks.
There are plenty of healthy choices sold during break times and after school at our snack bar.
Thank you for your support.

Learning
Water Aid visitors
Next week, to support our Water, Water, Everywhere? unit of learning, a representative from Water Aid will deliver a presentation to Year 5 students. We will learn about how charities work to ensure that communities have access to safe clean water. This will certainly help us to answer our driving question.

PSHE
In PSHE this week, we have started our Lego Collaboration project where Year 5 students work together as Engineers, ,Suppliers and Builders to construct a Lego model. Students need to use their speaking, listening, turn taking, clarifying, paraphrasing and compromising skills to be successful. We are also focusing on motivation and how, when things get difficult or we encounter obstacles, we keep on trying.
Next week, we will learn about healthy friendships and how to recognise unhealthy friendships.
Are you up for the challenge of writing a whole novel in a month?
Ask Miss Tanya if you are interested in taking part in this.
Class Blogs and home learning
Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs. You will find an overview of your child's learning along with their home learning tasks and any important messages from your child's class teacher.
Please check your child's class blog weekly to stay informed about their learning.
Please encourage your child to complete their home learning.

One Green Goal
This year the Patana Student Environmental Committee and the Primary Community Action Team are inviting students, families, and our wider community to join us in the One Green Goal challenge. Choose a goal that is relevant to you and your setting. Here are some suggestions from our students:
Waste less food
Say no to plastic
Take fewer flights
Turn off appliances when leaving a room
Have a meat free day each week
Buy LED lights
Use natural light when available
Charge appliances in a car rather than at home
Make an ECO brick
Use the recycle bins available at school
Share lifts to school Do a beach clean during the holidays
Donate your old clothes
Encourage others to choose a One Green Goal!
We would love you to share your goal and become part of our One Green Goal movement. Upload a portrait style video, less than one minute long to this link: https://bangkokpatanaschool-my.sharep... We will feature videos on our media channels. Remember to take photos of you doing your One Green Goal. We will be inviting participants to stay in touch throughout the year.
Events In The World
You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show. Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.
