Year 5 Newsletter 28th April

28 April 2023

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents

We've had an eventful week at school, with some key events to mention. Our Y3-Y6 students put on a fantastic dance and music assembly that was enjoyed by all. It was wonderful to see our students showcase their talents and their hard work paid off in a stunning performance. Well done to all!

Additionally, over the last two weeks we have held parent workshops on RSE, which were well-attended and informative. It's crucial that we work together to support our students as they navigate this important area of their lives. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to these valuable discussions.

On Monday, we will be enjoying our staff CPL day with some excellent topics for discussion. Guest speaker Tom Sherrington will be here in person to support us with our journey in the walkthrus and instructional coaching. He is also offering a parent workshop later in the week and we do hope you can attend.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We value your input and are here to support our school community in any way we can.

See you all on Tuesday!

Well-being

Healthy Snacks in school

Recently, many of our students have been bringing sweets and soft drinks into school. To promote healthy eating choices, we have a policy of no sweets, chocolate or soft drinks such as Prime.

Your child is aware of this. Please discuss the importance of eating healthily throughout the day as high sugar levels can negatively impact memory and learning.

Sharing snacks and selling snacks

We do not allow the sharing or selling of snacks in school. We encourage students to bring in snacks from home for themselves only.

Here are some suggestions for how to talk with your child .

As we move through the curriculum, we will share information in the newsletter so that you are aware of what your child is going to learn.

If you do have any questions, please do reach out to your child's class teacher or the myself mica@patana.ac.th.

Next week, we will introduce the Question Box lesson.

PSHE - Prejudice and racism

This week during PSHE we explored prejudice, discrimination and racism. We looked at the origin of humans and their migration throughout time. We looked at how all humans originated in Africa and that we all have the same ancestors.

Through listening to a story and discussion, we explored the idea of prejudices and how these can lead to racism. We reviewed our school values of diversity and inclusion and how as a school we celebrate difference.

Class Blogs and home learning

Here is the link to the Year 5 blogs. You will find an overview of your child's learning along with their home learning tasks and any important messages from your child's class teacher.
Please check your child's class blog weekly to stay informed about their learning.
Please encourage your child to complete their home learning.

Global Citizenship

Events In The World

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show.  Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Birthdays

We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.

  • Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
  • Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
  • Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats outside of classrooms.
  • Parents can join in the celebrations.
