Well Being

Mindfulness

In Year 6, we are exploring mindfulness and how this enhances learning. Part of mindfulness is ensuring that our students have plenty of opportunity to relax and recharge their batteries. To achieve this, sometimes we listen to music, sometimes we focus on breathing or through movement.

Research shows that mindfulness skills improve memory, organizational skills, reading and math scores, all while giving students the tools they need to handle toxic stress.

Watch this space to find out how we are incorporating mindfulness into our everyday curriculum.

Global Citizenship

Being a global citizen

During our unit of learning on Water, Water Everywhere?, we are exploring what it means to be a global citizen. Being a global citizen is part of what we value at Patana, and we use every opportunity to explore what this can look like in our everyday learning in class.

We have explored our dreams and goals and those of a variety of children around the world and the obstacles that these individuals may encounter. We reflected how fortunate we are in comparison to many children around the world.

As a global citizen, it is our responsibility to have an awareness of what is happening around the world, and if possible, to offer assistance to remove obstacles so that others can live better lives and achieve their dreams and goals.

In Year 5, over the coming months, we will organise some charity events to raise money to donate to the Water Well charities in Cambodia where families struggle to have access to clean water.  Lack of access to water is a huge obstacle that millions of people around the world are facing. Our actions can change people's lives.

Here is some information on one of the water well installed last year.

Events in the World

If you would like your child to be aware of world news and events but find it too overwhelming, have a look at Newsround for a more age appropriate version of current events.

You can also access First News and The Week along with a wide selection of other magazines in our Primary Library. Being aware of current events really will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class.
