Year 5 Newsletter 22nd September

22 Sept 2023

A note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

This week, we honoured the International Day of Peace. In our assemblies and classes, we considered how we can all contribute to peace and the importance of our collective and individual efforts. This very important day is one of my favourites on the school calendar, as it brings our values of global citizenship and wellbeing to the forefront of our teaching and learning. Do you check the Patana News weekly? I really encourage you to do so. In this week’s edition, I have prepared an article on the developments in assessment and reporting, plus the parent survey results from the end of last academic year. I hope you find both pieces informative.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Preventing the spread of colds and flu

Please help us to prevent outbreaks of cold or flu as we head into the rainy season.

Children with cold or flu (influenza) symptoms should be kept at home until they are completely recovered.

Even when the main symptoms have gone, your child may still need time to return to full strength.

Please do not send your child back to school too soon, even if they are no longer in the contagious phase.

If your child is still coughing or sneezing, please keep them at home and limit their contact with other children.

A child who has a fever should be kept at home until ‘fever free’ for a minimum of 24 hours.

Influenza is a serious and contagious infection that affects the nose, throat, and respiratory system.

The virus is commonly spread through droplets in the air, allowing infection to spread quickly.

When unsure, always seek medical advice, especially if a child has a chronic condition e.g., asthma.

If Influenza is confirmed, please send a copy of the medical certificate to Nurse@patana.ac.th

Snacks - please double check snacks coming into school

Students are welcome to bring in a healthy, reasonably sized snack to eat during morning breaktimes.

Please note NO sweets (candies), energy drinks or large bags of snacks are permitted. Students are not allowed to share snacks.

A reminder - NO NUTS in the primary school

Students are only allowed to bring water into school: no fizzy drinks or energy drinks are permitted.

Candy and fizzy drinks will be confiscated and given back at the end of the day.

Visual arts challenge - an exciting opportunity

Still time to get involved. Contact Miss Miranda mica@patana.ac.th.

Please encourage your child to complete their home learning.

Global Citizenship

Events In The World

You can keep up to date with current events around the world by watching Newsround, an age appropriate news show.  Being aware of current events will help your child to make connections with a range of themes when reading in class, and it is an ideal opportunity for you to model discussing your opinions and using experiences to draw connections between events and people.

Birthdays

We are a NUT FREE school. Please when ordering birthday treats double check before bringing treats on the campus. Many toppings offered by some donut shops have flaked almonds in their toppings and peanut butter fillings.

  • Individual treats can be brought into school with your child in the morning.
  • Please agree a time with the teacher in advance.
  • Children will be expected to eat any birthday treats outside of classrooms.
  • Parents can join in the celebrations.
